ive got one...haha bad time to ask for an opinion though because the pcm they sent me a a little over a year ago just went bad....started getting horrible consistent misfires after about 10min of running the car....i checked everything that could cause misfires and the last thing to check was the pcm and it was that, ended up putting in my stock computer i had still and the car runs good again and has been for the past 2 weeks. The pcm just went bad, i dont think its anything pcm4less did, their pcm was great and i couldnt tell how good that tune was till i put the stock pcm back in after driving it tuned for a year. I dont think you can go wrong with either pcm4less or texas s&p. Only advantage texas might have is that they probably tune a lot more 3.8 f-bodies, which is probably good enough reason to go with them, but pcm4less seems to be the larger more known company?
Black 1996 3.8 Firebird T5, SLP CAI, Pacesetter Ceramic Headers,160* t-stat, PCMforLess Tune, Flowmaster American Thunder catback, Car Sounds Cat, custom s-pipe, MSD coils and wires, NGK plugs, 3.42 posi rear, B&M Ripper, 245/50 BFG-G-force's
ok, i finally got my pcm back. it took a while to get it back and there was definately some miscommunication going on. Anyway, my car won't idle now so I'm trying to get ahold of them about it. Pain in the but keeping it revved up all the time between shifts and stop lights. Hopefully we can get it straightened out.
I'm also waiting on one, ordered it tuesday night. I hear from most forums that they are a good company to deal with but for the reason harrison said i would surely keep the stock pcm and have them send you one of thiers. That way there is no down time if something goes wrong. As for the performance i emailed Alvin, the head tuner for these cars and here is what he said:
"We completely remap fuel and spark tables, remove torque management, stiffen the shift points, as well as a few other things. You are looking at a solid 10rwhp and a definate improvement to torque and driveablity. We can program the car to run better with premium. "
So you will have to run 93 if you want to get the most out of the tune.
Just ordered mine on thursday. I opted for regular on the gas grade. Didn't really know if it would be better to go for 93/premium.
From what i've heard they can run a much more aggressive tune using premium. I dont know how tight your budget is but premium here is only 30 cents more a gallon which is like a few bucks more a tank. Plus if it ever gets to bad you can just swap back to your original pcm. Thats what im going to do.
On my old tune (jet) the torque curve was almost flat lined throughout the rpm range. Well with the pcm4less tune at about 4000 rpm all hell breaks loose there is way too much fuel going into the motor and I intantly loose hp and torque and it never overcomes it. I had to shut it down on the dyno because is was losing so much power so fast!!
To be plain and simple pcm4less gave me a BAD tune I lost 12 ftlbs torque at the tires at 5000 rpms and the only thing different is the tune.
I don't know what to tell you. You wanted before and after results and here you are. I was still had not peaked with the jet tune at 5000 rpms ( had to shutdown because speed limiter) and with the pcm4less it was running like pure $^&@ at 5000.
I am just glad I didn't put nitrous on it yet, no telling what would have happened if I sprayed it.
