Ok, I just read the sticky, but I want to confirm my thinking lol...I have a 1996 and I am about to swap it to a 1997 Pcm...from what I understand I am able to use a buick park Avenue pcm in the swap?

If I do this how detremental will this be, I mean I will be tunning it with HP tuners, but Im sure alot of things are going to be different, such as dif gears, shift points etc. All of these things I'd be changing but I am thinking that some paramaters are going to be different, and I may not be advanced enough in the very beginning to make all the changes...?

    Thanks.

What matters is the PCM #16227797. You will need to have a dealer upload the correct program using the VIN from a 97 car.

Could I do that using Hp Tuners?

        Re: PCM's

        ok...update I just bought a 97 firebird Pcm...I have a 96 camaro.

I went to the dealership and asked what they would charge to do a case relearn and they told me that they could try and change the programing but in doing so they may lock up the pcm and the car may not work...I have no idea what there talkin about. The guy said i would have been better buyin one from them that is blank. He said that they risk locking it up, and even if i swap my 96 back in, the car still may not start?

I personally think they dont know what there talking about...help?

you don't need to do a case learm I have swapped in 3 97 pcm's into 96s already and never have had to do one. It is a direct plug and play swap

ok sweet...so then I can take this 97 pcm...even tho its from a firebird...get it tuned and plug it right in to the car and I dont have to wory about anything?

and then just to clear things up then...why and when would you have to do a case relearn...I'm confused, to my understanding I thought it was whenever you swapped out the pcm?

Yea I remember reading that...thats why I went to the dealership to inquire about a case learn...What throws me off is there (the dealership) is talking about rewriting a program, and I dont see how that is a case learn, thats where Im more confused.
And also what is a partial write and a full write?

                  Re: PCM's

ok...I also went to another dealership today that told me that I may not be able to start my car, because the new pcm is not going to be able to talk to my BCM or something and therefore my keys are no good now and need to be reprogrammed?

None of this sounds right to me...anyone hear of this, or have this problem?

                    Re: PCM's

again, a 97 pcm is a direct swap into a 96 car, plug and play, fires right up...
