  • PCM reset times

Is there a specific amount of time and / or miles that our PCM's sample the sensors for fault.

For example, if I replace my fault O2 sensor, if there a specific amount of time or miles before the car will say, "Hey, the sensor is now fine" and shut the light off. I don't have time to disconnect the battery or have someone clear it right now.

I'm driving 700 miles tomorrow. Am I going to have to look at this light the whole trip? I see some folks here say a day... I've seen some say a week. Should I put a piece of electric tape over it?:D

How do you not have time to disconnect the battery? That doesn't make since. You leave tomorrow, just disconnect it for the night. I have never tested how long SES lights stay on, I just clear them with hptuners if I have one

...cause I have other stuff to do. Plus, it'll wipe out my radio. This radio has more features than frickin' NASA mission control and I just now got it sounding the way I like.

then drive it with the light on, after the system runs its checks it will go off. Not sure how long it takes or how many starts but the car will repeat the checks

Yeah, that's the plan... I was just wondering if someone possessed that useless piece of OBDII trivia.

That would be great. I'll make note of when I replace the sensor and post the results.

I found that it would take also three (3) engine starts.

If the fault is corrected the SES will stop illuminating right away. The fault code in the PCM memory should erase after a certain number of starts. I think it is somewhere in the 30 to 50 range (number of starts).

If you don't want to disconnnect the battery I believe you could also pull both PCM fuses and it should reset.
