then stop looking at the jet chips, definitely not the way to go for the 3.8. Look into getting a mail order tune from www.texas-speed.com or www.pcmforless.com

Also you can buy hptuners and tune your car yourself if you think you are going to be doing heavy mods to your car like FI or heads/cam and such.

Mail order tunes are good base tunes for simple bolt on cars and will net ya better results than a jet chip will.

Leave the jet chips to the 3.4.

          Re: jet chips?

I'm getting a tune from pcmforless.com after I finish doing my bolt-ons, as I won't be adding any other major performance part for a while. Atleast...probably not. :D

            Re: jet chips?

I had a Jet Stage 2 several years ago... Was one of the first mods I did on my Camaro back around 2000 or 2001. It pushed me like .2 or .3 in the 1/4. It was ok then, but nothing special. Then a couple years ago, I started getting mail in tunes(sold the jet chip), pushed me up another .4 to .5 in the 1/4 from what the jet chip did. Now I have HP Tuner software, and just from scanning my car I have found that I'm running lean on my long term fuel trims, and just today I hooked up my wideband, so before I upload the new tune I have made to my car, i'm going to take the car for a little drive tomorrow to see just how lean my car has been running on the mail in tune... From the long term fuel trims, it's look pretty lean, and would explain all the KR I have been getting...

Not saying the mail in tunes are bad, just choose a well respected place to get them from.

            Hope this helps, :)

I was under the impression the jet chips for the 3.4s were not worth the money. I plan on getting a tune for my car, would that negate any benefits from the Jet or are gains to be had combining the Jet w/ a tune?

                          Re: jet chips?

that resistor you found on ebay simply plugs into the air temp. sensor and tricks it into thinking the air charge is colder than it really is - so you get a richer air fuel ratio. you wont be as efficient and probably not any faster.

                            Re: jet chips?

I want to learn how to tune my own care after I get a mail-order tune from pcmforless (Mostly because I get a tune and a '97 PCM all in one), so that I can customize my tune to my car. But I don't know anyone around me that can tune, and I don't want to try to self-teach. Any pointers? (Other than getting HP Tuners:P)

Where was I warned? 1. My name isn't Brantford... 2. I've never been banned, or banned twice... and 3. Tyler88 was the one quoted. You out of the pool yet?

Where did you find a tune for the 3.4L? I didn't know there was one. I remember typing with someone about one you could build, but I didn't want to take that on. I would stay away from a Jet & Tune. Just go one or the other.

A custom tune would be the best bet. JetChip would be if you can't get a tune. I thinks it's better than stock.

Rob, there is a lot of confusion around the 3.4. From what I understand, there are 3 choices:

                                1. Megasquirt. This is the one you heard about that you build and program. You get some flexibility, but it seems a little complex.
                                2. FAST - approx. $4,000 (there's some discussion in the sticky above about it)
                                3. fastchip.com - reprogramming for the stock PCM based on params you fill into a form. The price is about $350.

I was thinking of trying MS, but I may do the fastchip thing for now.

Now I expect FunkZ and Ben to come in and correct all the stuff I just screwed up. :)
