  • question about wideband o2 sensor

Ok, So I've read the majority of the help files in HPTuners (that i just got:)) and I also read the tuning guide by Turbov6.

So my question is, Before I start changing my AFR, power enrichment, knock retard and what-not I need to purchase a wideband o2 sensor correct? I've seen some with the digital displays for like, $250, but I've seen some for about $75, such as these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVE...spagenameZWD1V. The ones for $75 is the one that I need to install right?

Also, when I was cruising on instesate I glanced at the scannign screen and it said my rpms were about 2400. My tach however said they were about 36-3700. So does this mean that my tach is slightly off, or is that totally normal? Thx for any info.

PS If there are some of you about to chastise me for not researching this further before getting the tuning kit, don't worry. I'm not going to alter the values of anything on my vehicle until I comprehend what it is I'm altering.

A wideband is ideal to find out what your actual A/F ratio is. The narrowband sensors are not the best to look at for tuning.

You can however work your timing tables to get rid of KR and such though.

I got my PLX wideband for like $225 shipped I think. Innovative makes some decent ones as well.

K, so basically stay clear of the $75 ones on ebay...? Darn...

Well, if that's so I'm gonna wait a lil while to recoup. Being a poor college student is kinda sucky. In the meantime I'll read a lot more on the KR and such.

But you didn't answer my other question about the HPTuners Scanner reading diff RPM's than my Tach during the scan. I'm just curious on that matter. Ehh...correction, the tach said it was 26-2700, NOT 3.6k...
