Hi all,
I have a SES light scanned the codes and got the 4040 (and another egr code I don't have with me).
So I searched and found this is not uncommon and most folks just pull off the EGR clean it up and go on because this code comes from the valve sticking.
I pulled it off sunday grabbed a fresh can of O2 sensor friendly carb cleaner and went to town on the valve. When it was done it was sliding in and out just fine, in fact it took very little pressure to open the valve. I did a little cleaning on the mating surface of the valve to the flange, made sure there was nothing choking it off and put everything back together and plugged it up. Now the code still will not go away, I have been through 6 cycles with over 100 miles of driving. Everything I found said that the computer should turn off the light after 3 cycles of the egr having the proper voltage when the ECM does it's check of the valve.
So I am thinking that either my egr is bad in that it's an electronic issue
OR
the valve is now too loose and the pressure caused by the exhaust is somehow making it open.
Anyone been down this road or have any advice?
Anyone have an EGR that was good when they removed it they want to send me?
