need 1997 donor vin for ecm flash

ive got a 1996 3.8 camaro with manual trans, and want to put in a 1997 ecm. the company im ordering from needs a donor vin from a 1997 w/ a manual to input the correct settings. my vin wont work. any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

i have a 96. if i go to a 97 my understanding is that i can use a ls1 maf sensor, and have much more tuning capability such as hp tuners.

I have a 96 and pcmforless imputted my vin into the 97 pcm I got...

Yeah, you should be able to use your same VIN from your 96.

where are you getting it from? You shouldn't need a vin. I have a 97 manual bin file if they need one just would need an email to send it too. All they do is upload the bin with hptuners or powertuner and it is good to go

the company is called spareecm on ebay. he claims he cant load a 96 vin program into a 97, but if i wanted to program it myself he could load a 97 donor vin program and let me take it from there.

you just need a 97 pcm and you are set. you cannot tune 96 pcms other than powertuner supposedly can. You do not need to load the 96 file on a 97 pcm, in fact you cannot do that.

sweet; im assuming he'll still need the 97 vin to load the 97 ecm to give me some base parameters to tune off of. thanks for the help.

a 97 pcm is a direct plug and play if it is a manual trans pcm. Otherwise you just change the trans tables or upload a manual bin. You do not need a vin for anything

thanks rs, i live about a mile from texas speed and plan on taking it there as soon as i get it. ive just got to get this guy to ship it to me and he keeps asking for a vin.

texas-speed should have one on the shelf or look at car-parts.com for a 97 pcm

He's using a TECH II to flash the PCM before he sends it to you. The VIN you send him determines what gets flashed into the PCM.
