  • Got my 3.4l tuned by fast chips!

i just got my pcm back from ed wright over at www.fastchip.com

$300 plus shipping. comes with stickers too. :p

mild performance tune (still runs on 87,) i think the fan comes on sooner, speedo recalibration for tires and gears, trans adjusted for gears and firmer shifts.

i'll send him an email just to check on everything that was specifically changed. (i really only cared about the gears.)

i dont have any base line numbers to go by, but if all goes planned (i finish my essay) i'll head to englishtown on saturday or sunday.

its been a week since i drove my camaro, and i've been driving my 86 caprice in its place, so the butt dyno is saying its a z06. its hard to accurately say how much of an improvement it is. all i can say is it works, and my speedo is right.

great, can't wait to find out some actual numbers.

btw what make, model and tranny?

i'm thinkin bout sending in for a tune but since i'm camming my car i'm not sure if advancing timing any more is a good idea.

can you elaborate on how the shifting feels and if the car seems any more powerful?

i only took it for a quick spin around the block a few times so far, forgot my wallet so i didnt want to go too far from home. i'll be driving it 20mi. to school tomorrow so i'll have a better feeling.

what i can tell you so far is that when you let off the pedal, it almost feels like when its in 1st or 2nd, like it stays in gear longer before going into neutral or whatever it is autos do. its not exactly the same as being in one of the low gears, but its similar.

you have a 4l60, not a 4l60e right? i dont know if anything can be tuned for that.

well that would make sense since the 4l60 is not electronically controlled (can we interchange that with computer?) so yeah probably not, but thats not what ed has told me so far in my correspondence with him however like i said with the new cam being put in, i'm not sure i want to mess with ignition timing and i don't wanna pay 300$ for shift improvements when i can get a transgo kit for 150$. maybe if i ever get different gears i would consider it. thanks for the info.

Re: Got my 3.4l tuned by fast chips!

              after driving it to school today;

i can't notice much in terms of shift firmness. i always thought it shifted pretty firm to begin with, so who knows.

i swear my speedometer is still off. i tested 0-60 in about 9 seconds. i think thats right. but on the highway the speedo was saying 90, and i'm fairly certain i wasnt going that fast. BUT i could only get it to go about 100 or so (never been able to hit the limiter with stock gears, but was able to with the uncalibrated speedo with the new gears, now i cant) so i really have no idea. i need to test it with someone else driving some speeds to see how accurate it is. i didnt check my odometer since the difference in the trip is so little between 3.23s and 3.73s.

i could be wrong though, its been a while since i've had the speedo right, and ive never had it right with the gears so who knows.

the thing definitely seems faster though. it pulls harder for longer in the upper rpms too. ill take note of exact numbers when im driving home if theres no traffic.

                        ive never raced before.

considering i never got to try the stock tune, i cant say for sure if its an improvement or not.

i wouldnt use my times as an accurate measurement, not yet anyway.

but i still complained about the speedo.

also how do you compare modded v8 explorers to a v6 camaro?

there were jeeps there running 12s, who gives a ****. if there was another 3.4 fbody, thats worth comparing.

That better? Compared to other 3.4s you still sound slow.

telling me im slow doesnt help. unless you can tell me something from looking at my slips.
