    Re: 97 pcm tune questions

The Pro is worth the extra money. Not only is it easier to hook a wide band too, it has stand alone logging where no PC is required until your ready to look at your data.

YES, you will need a wide band.

It is not a good idea to use other cars tunes in your car. Every combination is different and what works good on one may not work well on others. You should start reading the forum at HPtuners.com. Lots of better information over there about tuning.

Do I have to buy a wideband unit...or can I just can an O2 sensor?...how many do I need...I dont want a A/F gauge Like I have been seeing in these packages... what is involved in hooking it up?

You don't need a gauge, you just need a wide band sensor and controller. An Innovate LC1 is the bare bones of what you would need, but it's a permanent install. An Innovate LM1 would be a step up as it moves from car to car much easier but cost a good bit more.

do you have a link as to where I can find an innovative LC1? what is all involved in the install?

How crucial is it to tune with wideband? I am not planning on plugging someone elses tune directly in with no changes...I plan on having to make some tweaks and changes as I know every car is a little different...

I also don't really care about the data logging thing...I dont mind driving around for an hour with the laptop in the car to record stuff If need be...Just trying to keep the costs down...

You may have to add an O2 bung in the exhaust after the Y pipe and before the converter if you don't have one. After you screw the sensor in, you run a few more wires and it's plug and play with the HPT pro version.

Tuning with a wide band is very important as you need to know what your AFR is so you don't burn your motor up.

It's better to tweak your tune. To put a tune from another car in your car would cost more HPT credits anyway as you would have to license both your PCM and the other tune file.

so if you sent me a tune and I wanted to copy that tune I would have to pay more credits? I thought that was kind of the idea for the repository....you could share knowledge and info without having to pay for it....also, how many of those things in that link do I need?

                Re: 97 pcm tune questions

You can copy and paste parts of other tunes into your tune and not have to use more credits, as long as your modifying your original tune file, but to flash someone Else's tune into your PCM you need to use credits to license that tune or buy the model year license.

You would only need one LC1 for your car.

so do I need that whole thing, or can I get this? http://store.summitracing.com/partde...&view=1&N=700+

whats the difference between the link you sent me and the one above?... I think the one in my link may not have an O2 sensor...am I able to use my O2 sensor that I already have in my car?

                    Re: 97 pcm tune questions

I heard there is a way to do wideband through either the AC or egr with the standard version...does anyone know how to do this or have a link that tells you how. I mean...would it be possible to delete my egr and run wideband through the egr to tune the car, then once the car is tuned pull the wideband out and put the egr back in? (emissions)

I know I like to make things difficult....I didnt exactly work this into my budget when I did my initial research...if I have to go through the means of pro and wideband controller I am going to have to cut out something like the ported intakes...

it's on the HPT board and it's a PITA.

                        Re: 97 pcm tune questions

I ran mine through the EGR, just need one wire from it to go to your wideband. Mine is a PLX -M300 so it had the wire coming off the box for it. Then in Hptuners you just have to make a PID for it and then you can dial it in from there. Not to hard to do, HPtuners alrerady had a PID setup for it, just had to click on it and setup the #'s so they read the same as your wideband. Mine is pretty close .1 or .2 off from my wideband read out. There are some writeup's on it , search the advanced section, I think someone posted about this about 6 months back.

will do thank you...is what you did a permanent install? like did you have to permanently delete your egr?...I need mine for emissions so I have to be able to revert back after I tune it...its something like an 800$ fine and possible impoundment to if I am pulled over and dont have my emissions control devices installed

Mine is permanent, they don't even pop the hood or anything here in AZ. They just plug into the OBDII port and look for codes.

ahh...they do full checks here...and sniffer test...Plus if I get pulled over by a cop that doesnt like me for some reason and decides he wants to give me a hard time...he can pop my hood and look for crap like missing emissions controls....then Im screwed...

do you need that full kit...or can you just get something like a wideband sensor and a gauge...then, while tuning with hp tuners...keep an eye on your a/f gauge?
