    Best just to check it like I said . I've never had one off a 98+ 3.8.

      where is the coolant temp sensor located? you might be able to take that out to drain it enough

        Yeah of course, but just to be even more careful I'm gonna get the water pump at a different store and install it tomorrow and see how it runs.

        It's higher than the pump, just below the throttle body.

        I don't know why I ask so many questions when I know that i know the answers. My dad gets onto me about that all the time. I like to be too careful. But either way, thank you guys. I'll let you know how it goes.

          dont worry man, i do the same thing.. there are many problems i see people having with their cars and i help them and tell them what they need to do, and yet when i have a problem, i will come here and ask.. its a way to gain more information, find tips for fixing it, and may give you direct answer

          but yeah, any sensor that is below the water pump will do.. just a word of caution, if our engines have the little block drain plugs (usually at the lowest point of the block) i would NOT try and use those, it is so very common for them to get rusted in place and snap when trying to take it off.

          i would go for the knock sensor if it is below the pump
