Hi guys,
This is actually for my sister. She drives a 2000 Grand Am and has been struggling with these issues for some time and I know she has dumped her fair share of $$$ into the car to fix it with no avail. I know this is an fbody forum but I know there are some 3400 buffs around here who might know something to help. Please help!
"Thanks for trying to research and gather info regarding my car issue. Here's a quick synopsis of what's been going on...
Last October, the GM dealership poked and prodded around and finally decided the BCM (Body Control Module) had gone bad. It was replaced and the problem went away for 8 months. Then the other night I started driving my car and some of the dashboard lights came on (Security, Service Engine Soon, Seat Belt). These were same lights that were coming on and off all last summer before the BCM was replaced. The car seemed to run ok and my local mechanics were not available, so I went ahead and drove it to get outfitted with new tires. Once I drove the car out of the shop, I noticed some additional dash lights were on (ABS and Brakes). I stopped the car and tried to restart it. Then, after trying to restart it 4-5 times unsuccessfully I ran back to the tire shop and got a guy to come help me. He started and revved the engine hard 4-5 times and it finally kicked on. I drove the car to the dealership and they started giving me their same lame story about diagosis fees, etc and I decided to take my car somewhere else. I was recommended to go to a shop with sophisticated computer readers and the guy came up with the following error codes:
U1000 Loss of Class 2 Communication
U1064 Loss BCM/VTD/DIM/PZM/OR SBM (different kinds of modules)
P1626 Anti Theft System Fuel Enable Circuit
P2960 Passlock Communication
That mechanic believes the first three codes and his testing that resulted in failed communication with the BCM point to a bad BCM. The last code and fuel cutoff I was experiencing points toward a Passlock problem. (FYI, Passlock is a security/theft deterent device meant to cut off fuel if the car believes an unknown key is being used in the ignition.) Currently, I have the car waiting over the weekend at the mechanics for work to proceed next week. If you hear of any other stories about Grand Am/Pontiac owners with similiar problems, I'd appreciate the info."
Thanks guys!
