  • Exhaust leak causing lean wideband reading

I'm getting extremely annoyed. After a huge day of disappointments.. Replaced the FPR due to dropping pressures after priming. Found out it was just the smaller O-ring that was cracked causing this after I paid for a whole new FPR. FML.

So after the FPR disappointment I had some brand new tr6 plugs to put in. I ended up searching for a plug gapper for like 2 hours so new plugs were out of the question at the moment. FML.

3rdly, and the reason why I'm posting here. Bought a brand new wideband sensor thinking that my sensor was going bad due to the 15.3-16 AFR readings at cruise. Opened the new wideband.. Well **** I ordered the wrong one apparently. FML. However, the pins fit together perfectly but the plastic housings did not. Luckily one housing was small enough to insert into the other so, a couple of zipties and a bit of silicon later I have a brand new working wideband. But.. The readings were the f'n same. Tons of wasted money today.

Whatever. So I believe that my problem lies in an exhaust leak at the header to Y-pipe ball flange. I'm guessing that this is causing this lean reading. BTW at WOT my AFR hits my commanded as it should. This is why I think the exhaust leak is causing this. More pressure in the pipes at WOT don't allow air to get into muh pipes. Also, after looking over scans meticulously I noticed the first bank narrowband has tiny spikes of a lean condition at idle. Which could also explain the tiny tiny backfire sound at idle. Would air entering the exhaust at the flange really cause any kind of detonation like that? And what do you guys think about the lean issue?

Sorry for the long story, i'm venting.

It could. Fix the exhaust leak and see if the lean condition goes
away. I haven't had good luck with ball and socket flanges either.

lmao, ya know. I actually had plans on fixing that leak.
I'm having a hell of a time with it..

Ah oh yeah so I wanted to ask.. So we have that brillo pad type gasket material in our stock flanges. Is there somewhere that sells those? I tried muffler shops but they looked at me as if I was from space. I can't stand inexperienced employees at any automotive shop/store. They think they know more than anyone who walks in the store. Still venting.

Fondle, I will do that. I actually have some copper rtv in the garage. Thanks.

Back when I had pacesetters, I bought a sheet of exhaust gasket
material and made my own. I tried to find some "donut" gaskets,
            but didn't have any luck.

I have a 3 bolt flange and copper gasket with my new setup and
            have had zero problems.

I had bad exhaust leaks that I didn't know were that bad and it showed up on my wideband, it was night and day difference once fixed. I have had my wideband and car so long I know when there is something wrong. I do the same use 3 bolt copper gaskets with spray copper RTV like for the head gaskets.

It's just the sensor, not the module or any of that. And apparently I have a backup now.
