  • No sound after new head unit install :(

I am not meant to have any sort of stereo in my car, Ive had worse luck after bad luck

Had a JVC POS in the car literally 20 minutes before the new one was installed. Sound came through all speakers... Now I have none. Strangely enough I do have sound going to my sub (I can even make out the song playing).

As far as I can tell, after multiple checks, everything was wired correctly. I should note I have to manually wire it up because some motherb!tch owner before me decided it was OK to cut out the harness (I will beat the life out of this person).

On a side note: At one point in time Im pretty sure I heard it come through the car speakers (volume was low so Im not possitive), and then it went away (or I became alert LOL) right after I heard a click come from the rear. Im guessing the click was from the stock amp (this was after the speakers stopped working).

What am I missing guys? I cant stand another day of 60+ miles of repeating/no music!

Question, does this car have factory bose? If yes then your best bet would be to rip that junk out and run all your own wires like I did in my camaro that came with bose. If it doesnt have the bose crap just start tracing wires because most newer head units have a safety feature built into them that when the speaker outputs get shorted to each other or to body ground they shut off the internal amp chip to prevent damage to the unit. Buddy of mine had a newer sony and one of his speakers was blown and shorted and it would run a diagnostic test before powering up and playing music while displaying a message on the screen to alert there was a problem, it didnt shut off all the other speakers though, just that one.

I dont think this has that kind of ability. Its just a el cheapo Dual.

Im not sure if my system is bose or whatever. There wasnt a head unit in it when I got the car.

UPDATE: This morning I know I heard sound in my other speakers! But only for like 2 seconds and then no more. Just my sub...

Hmm...well you could always try your old h/u again. If it works then I would say you most likely have a defecto h/u.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. But its easier said than done. The wires are cut soooo short that Im tying wires inside the dash.

Im trying to think of a way to have two wires coming from something else. That way I can temp patch into the connector and see if each speaker will play, or not, without haveing to pull all the wires back apart. This will also segment the issue; if I cant get sound at any speaker, then something is wrong with my 'stock' amp. If its at some speakers, then I have a crossover as you stated before. If I can get sound at all speakers, then crossover or defecto HU. Make sence? Any ideas?

First place I would jump is grounding. Bad ground have all kinds of weird symptoms. Get a long wire and run it to any old place that you know has a good ground and run it to the ground wire input on your head unit.
What year is the car? If it's bose, and things are wired correctly, everything will work except that the volume will be very high, unless the amp trips an internal circuit inside as said above when it detects a short. The unit might detect all your speakers "shorting out" because they are 2ohm whereas the unit is more than likely made for 4ohm. If you need the bose adapter, I believe I still have one that I could give you.

Easiest check for bose, car is pre 97, and there is a speaker grill in the hatch area on the driver side only.

Sorry, the car is a 98'

Are we saying the factory amp will trip if one speaker is crossed?

I will try the ground thing as soon as I get the damned Jeep fixed, again...

              Thanks for the help :D

I don't know a whole lot about those stereos besides if its the 10 speakers system then the woofers are powered by the amp in the spare tire well and the tweeter are powered by the headunit.

Does anyone have a wire color chart for the radio system?

why dont you just rewire teh speaker from the head unit directly to the speakers.

You make it sound too easy. And there is no way in hell Id do it. No reason to. All speakers worked 20 minutes before my install, with the other POS JVC. I can still hear the amp click; is that turning on or is that turning off? If off, what causes it?

when my stock amp started to click, both of my speakers in the hatch had no sound only the two front ones and one in the sail panel got a another amp from a junk yard and there problem fixed. with system turned to **** when i had a screen installed the dumb a$$ at the stereo dint know what he was doing adn he cut off the the harness in the back and **** with the harned from the amp. i found out months later when my screen messed up and was taking it off and saw the mess he did i tried putting everythign back but it was a no go sooooo what i ended up doing was gettin a new stereo harness and but it back together and i just cut ran speaker wires straight from the harness to the speakers that way i i knew of what i had.

Running all new speaker wires isnt really a hard thing to do. Ive done it in 4-5 now, the only thing that ever gave me a problem was getting my own wire into the doors because fishing it through the grommet was a pain because its hard to get to the opening behind the kick panels, drivers side especially.
