  • Power Antenna Disassembly ?

How do I disassemble the power antenna motor to remove the broken pieces of the plastic gear rod?

I have pulled the motor out of the car, but it looks like it is riveted. Do I just drill out the rivets and then use epoxy to put it back together? I have searched and lots of people have had to do the same, but I did not see how they did it.

I drilled out the plastic rivets and used small screws to hold the side cover on. I also wrapped it with tape just to make sure it didnt come apart. real easy to fix, good luck with it.

I picked up some 1/2 inch long #6 Pan Head sheet metal screws. I would have prefered something 1/4 inch long, but they didn't have them.

I used a center punch to tap a dimple into the center of the plastic rivet. I then drilled the plastic rivets out just a little smaller than the screws.

I removed the 4 broken bits of the worm gear and then greased the round gear and other internal componants with lithium grease. I also rubbed the antenna down with some powdered graphite.

I assembled the antenna motor and the screwed pulled it together real snug. I was worried that I may need to use some epoxy, but I didn't.

I then installed the motor into the car.

Last, I had my fiance turn the radio on and then off, while I installed the new antenna mast.

Hopefully, this thread will help other in the future.

I fretted that I would screw up the motor housing, but it turned out a really simple job.

      Peace,
      Rick
