I have a 99 Firebird. This is what I have (its ordered)...

    Kenwood KVT-614 - 7" TFT-LCD Full-color display with Z-Action Mechanism, Single DIN In-dash AM/FM, DVD, CD, MP3, WMA, Divx player

    Power Output:

    Peak: 50 watts x 4 channels
    RMS: 22 watts x 4 channels

3 Sets of 5V preamp outputs (front, rear and subwoofer)
    3-Band parametric equalizer
    24-Bit digital-to-analog converter
    High-pass and low-pass crossovers

    Wireless remote control
    GPS Navigation via Kenwood KNA-G510
Bluetooth via Kenwood KCA-BT200 Bluetooth adapter
Steering Wheel Control via PAC SWI-JACK v1.6.16

    ---------------------

My plan is to use this system for mp3's via USB, DVD movies (will run an LCD to the back for the kids), setup a backup camera and probably use the last a/v input for a netbook hooked to my cellphone plan.

My question is.. If I like the music moderately loud, but I like a LOT of thump, what kind of setup to I need to purchase? Should I just run two front speakers and two rear speakers directly off the 5v preamps, then add an amp and subwoofer to the subwoofer preamp?

I am a computer guy, but I am not a car audio guy.

    Thanks for any input.

Look into small subs, but if you want to bang like a hood thug, get a pair of 12's at least. But I would say that a single ten inch sub would work well and be cheap.

If you want space in the back still in the hatch , order the passenger and driver side stealth boxes for 10" speakers , I have 10" Alpine type X and its loud for a 10" with 2 its going to be pretty loud and deep bass for 10's. I would get a 2 amps , 1 for the subs and then a 4 channel amp for the front speakers and then the sail panel speakers. Get a set of compinets for the front which will have the 6 3/4" speaker ,tweeter, and crossover, then for the sail panels you could do the same or go with a midrange speaker, like a 8" or even a 6X9" 3 way speaker like I did with a little modification, so you get mid bass and have highs too. Your at least looking at $1500 to $2000 for a nice setup or more depending on brands, plus you have to add wiring and install if you don't know how to do it.

        Re: Seeking Advice/Knowledge

        Thanks for the info.

I was thinking about the stealth sub boxes and a couple 10's, as well as a sub amp. Was not sure if I needed a 4 channel amp for the front/rear speakers.

I realize there will be a bit of cost involved. I already dropped near a grand on the headunit, gps, bluetooth, swi-pack, etc. so another $500 to $1000 is no big deal.

I do appriciate the help, now I just need to do some research on subwoofer and amps brands that will do what I want with my kenwood.

          Re: Seeking Advice/Knowledge

My Boston Acustics GT42 is a outstanding 4 channel amp with built in crossover on the amp and also has a channel for a subwoofer but I just use it as a 4 channel amp and works great since I can set my fronts up different than my real sail panels. Its a 900 RMS amp and 2ohm stable in each channel , I got it off of Amozan or Ebay new for $220 shipped I think it was. For a sub amp if your looking to run 2 stealth 10's you'll have to look at the sub, example: my Alipine 10" type X is Dual 4 ohm but can also be a 2 ohm single depending how you set it up If you get a 2 ohm mono amp then you'll want a 2 4channel subs to wire together to mkae a 2ohm load so you get the most out of the Mono amp. If you go with high end subs then at least find a amp that is rated 1000 RMS or more not a cheap amp that says Max ouput 2500 watts , big diference , also distortion output an dB come into play. My GT42 amp has 2 -40amp fues and my PPI 2300 amp has 2- 60 amp fuses, thats whay I run 2 4ga. wires from the amps and 0 ga. from the front to rear and 1 ga. grounds. 10-12 ga. speaker wire, also a breaker is alot better than big fuse holders, some fuses are like $5 and can get crazy if not wired right or not having enough power for the amps. If you want some deep hard hitting 10's the Alipine Type X is perfect in the steath boxes with some poly fill (just a little). Just make sure their getting at least 400 RMS a piece min. I plan on running 700 RMS but turning down the gain to about half insted of 3/4's like I do now with my amps. Will help them in the long run, not over heating and def. last longer, my PPI amp is about 20 years old.LOL
