alipine type "S"' sound real good in the doors. That's what I'm running, with a alpine type "R" 10 inch sub in the back. I un-pluged the rear deck speakers and tweeters but still have the stock monsoon back seat speakers running. And i think it sounds real good.... something to think about
Alpine has a componet setup , their type X series which are 6 3/4" and you can mount the tweeters anywhere, their about $300 a set so 2 sets and you'll be fine and then just run the type R sub which is decent like stated, I have one I can sell you which is about 6 months old , about how long I used it, $50 plus shipping and just buy a stealth box for $120 shipped from Subthump. I will have to look at the S series from alpine , I have seen the r's and X's , but right now my mids and highs are great. Kisten you could go with a 6 3/4" 3 ways in the front doors I have Infinity kappa's in mine sound great.

i have stock speakers still in there. i do have an after market sub and amp. but i'm not counting them since i don't know how much longer i will be keeping them.
I hear a lot of good stuff about the kee audio, but never actually heard any.
X2.. But unless your speakers are blown, I'm not sure how much better sound you're going to get out of that JVC headunit. If it were me, I'd get a 4-channel amp to run the doors and sail panels and probably ditch the hatch speakers altogether. They aren't good for staging and would really only help the backseat passengers not hear just bass from the sails, but seeing as you have no backseat, they seem useless.
I'd also say that if you plan on getting rid of your sub, you definitely should get an amp as most aftermarket decks and speakers are designed to compliment subs, not replace them, so especially if you're used to sub woofers, you'll want a nice amp with bass boost.
personally i have polk db651's all round with a woofer in the trunk and i think it sounds good. 2 pairs will be ~$90. question is, will you really notice the difference in sound quality between a super expensive speaker and a good upgrade-from-stock speaker. especially in our cars with the road noise and exhaust tones and etc.
the reason no one asked about my budget is because they know i don't have one:excited:
but i don't care much for audio, i don't want to be heard a mile away. i just need to replace my stock speakers with something that works
i have a Pioneer GM-7150M Premier Mono Power Amplifier amp which is set up to my Pioneer TS-W256C 800 watt sub.
only reason why i'm thinking of removing it is because the thing doesn't work right. if i put the bass up to high the sub will cut out. i do not lose power, the bass just cuts out.
i am going to put my rear seats back in at some point so i do want to run with all 6 speakers.
Kisten , did you check the stuff I told you about for your amp clipping off, OHM loads and what not , good ground, > I forgot what I said , will have to go back and look at my PM's. Is the sub DVC? if so 2ohm+2ohm(1ohm load) or 4ohm + 4ohm(2ohm load) on a mono amp with the right terminals for the bridging of the amp because is you don't run it off the right terminals it won't be in bridged mode just reg. side of speaker which could be 4 ohms and your running a 2ohm on it so it will clip out.

if you're on a budget, my vote is for the polk. and the sail speakers aren't really a big deal, even if you're sitting in the back. our cars are so small plus the back seats are literally right next to the speaker... my brother's formy has the 10 speaker system, and i don't notice the sail speakers when i'm in the back.
Polk , MB Quatz , Infinity Kappa series , and Alpine are all good, mines a 10 speaker setup, with the 2 10's in the stealth boxes, but it still sounds good without the 10's which I like since I can pull them out for the track if needed and still listen to music.

I'd stay away from Infinity Kappa's if you are getting rid of the sub. They are nice speakers but noticeably lacking bass reproduction over the competition.
And for the record, I never said there was anything wrong with the head unit, just that, like most decks, it doesn't have an adequate amplifier to reproduce a convincing full range on most aftermarket speakers. Pioneer are the only head units I've heard that can do this for the most part, but an amp will noticeably improve their sound as well.
I just redid my Buick's stereo without a sub, I used Rockford Fosgate power series and a kicker amp and I'm quite happy with the results. I picked the Rockford's by going to 4 or 5 big box stores and listening to all the options, Rockford stood out to me so I went with them.
But really, if you're not too in to SQ and just want a decent system to listen to music at a moderate level, I'd look into Pioneer. They've got some very inexpensive entry-level stuff that is great sounding for the price. I'm a bit of a sound quality nut and I have some fairly inexpensive Pioneer speakers in my sail panels of the Camaro powered by a Kicker amp and the sound quality is actually quite impressive.
