Well I just found out on my new camaro that the only key on hot lead I can use is the one for the power outlet (no longer called cig lighter) go figure.

Re: Amp
Whats your question? You need a wire out for your turn on/off ign. for your amp? Use a mutimeter and then run a wire from the fuses or under the dash.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

Re: Amp
Ok, maybe my understanding is different. There are 3 leads on an amp, there's the 12v that goes to the battery, there's the ground and then there's the ignition or key on hot lead that actually turns the amp on when the car is on. This is the lead I'm talking about

Re: Amp
I have gave my answer a few posts up there, I have about 8 mics. gauges and switches and 2 big @ss amps one takes a 225 amp fues and the other 160 amp fuse, a 200 amp alt. and 2 batteries with a 200 amp relay for battery isolation , just do what I explained up there and you can find what I'm taking about, if not you may need a professional do you install and hang around and watch him and ask questions best way to learn. Not putting you down or anything but either you need to have someone show you so you know what to look for or have someone do it so you don't mess something up and your car is burnt up over night from wiring it up wrong, which I have seen done by Circuit City on a 89' Camaro 350 , but the car to just about nothing, but the girl did get a newer car a 95' Z28 so kinda of luck out Circuit City wired it up wrong.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

Re: Amp
I've seen amps that run either way, typically, the key-on lead is ran off the back of the head unit,
Most aftermarket head units have a lead specifically for this, or you can use the power antenna lead, careful though because some retract the antenna when in CD mode.
If your using a factory headunit, just find some 12v line that ins only on in ignition on position, there are lots of them and the power outlet is not one.

Re: Amp
look for a yellow wire on the back of your head unit ( if stock) this should be the ignition power wire. my suggestion is tap this line to activate a relay that powers your signal wire sfor your amp this way in the future you can also use this relay to power on other items like a gauges or hard mounted electronics. This is how I have it and the relay is powering a second fuse board for a radar detector, my fog light switch( triggers a second relay), and a signal line for the amp in my trunk.
