  • My System is finally here!!

Finally got all my stuff installed, well except the speakers and amp.
Its a Mass Destruction Napalm 12 ran at 1 ohm off of a Hifonics XX Hercules. It's all in a sh*tty box that my local box builder built.

I'm really not too happy with the box at all though. First off, I paid 200 for a particle board box. The guy doesn't know what its tuned to. It doesn't go all the way across the back of the car like I wanted, and there are no terminals or anything, just the wires ( 1 from each coil) running out of the ports. So now I'm having Team Toxic Bass design me a box and I just have to find somewhere else to build it.

The system does slam right now though. Everything flexes pretty good, hatch, rear glass, doors, windows, and a little bit of the windshield.
The lows are the most amazing part of this sub. They are actually louder than any high notes I could play. I probably peak at around 40-45 hz right now.

a ported box wont have terminals. they dont. you wire it through the port, or drill a hole in the box somewhere. thats just how its done. and if you dont mind me asking, why 1 ohm? also, the box doesnt look that bad. but im more of a function over flashy person.

You certainly can have terminals on a ported box. Just because it's ported doesn't make it any different. You don't run speaker wires thru ports either.

For roughly the same money, you could have had a subthump box and it would have been made out mdf and not particle board, plus it would have looked waaaaaaaaaay nicer and fit the car a lot better and matched too. I'm sure you have seen our boxes.

This is a good example I was trying to make in a previous post about "local shops" versus dealing with somebody who specializes in f-bodies like we do. You go into these places, tell them what you want, they take your money and give you something way different than you were expecting--something that you don't like one bit, and doesn't perform well. I would be tempted to take it back and demand a my $$ back. I hate seeing somebody get worked over like that. And honestly, I would be embarrassed to build something like that for 200 and expect someone to accept it. Especially if it was made from PB. That stuff isn't worth runnin thru a saw.

But anyways, congrats on getting your system installed.

all the ported boxes I had before had terminals. He just said that he doesn't put them on his "High SPL" boxes. Its at one ohm to get as much power as I can out of that amp.

dual 2's wired into parallel for a 1 ohm load

I was going to order a subthump but supposedly, this guy was gonna give me more airspace and design it "exactly how I wanted it" It obviously didn't turn out how I wanted so, Like I said earlier, I am having Team Toxic Bass design me a new box. He will probably take a couple of months just to design it, as he is taking into account all of the reflection points of my car, and he is going to map teh wave compression in sectors, then he's going to lay it all out so I can get the optimal allignment. He is also taking into consideration the two subs that I will be using and using their t/s params in the design proccess.

Any stereo shop that puts speaker wire through the ports on the box needs a real INSTALLER. Very amateur job, although I am sure it 'sounds' fine.

Thats a nice sub and amp. But I have got to agree with Steve (megabass) there are better box options such as those on subthump.com. He will defenetly go the extra mile to make you a custom box to your spefications. I went to so far as to sending him my amps to mount them perfectly in my custom box, and it came out perfectly. There is not a shop that would go the extra mile like Steve did, he truely is the best F-Body subwoofer box master. I wish I had taken pictures to justify that box but I have since sold that car and box, hopefully he still has some pics that I sent him.

HAHA. thats funny. just b.c they wire it into the port doesnt mean its a bad job. i have seen just as many people with a small hole drilled for it as ive seen with it ran through the port. and i rarely see a terminal on a ported box. i have my wires run through my port. and my box is half mdf and half fiberglass, both 1 inch think. my box was built by a professional, thats right. someone who compets in their free time, with sponsers and all that blah blah blah. not from a shop, he does it as a hobby.

anyways, one bad mofo, hope your happy with your system and you get everything worked out. i would go have the cover the rest of the trunk up at least. or take it to somebody who will tune it, and make it look nice. mine is tunes at 35hz, supposibly the "sq tune." and it shakes the crap out of my car. nothing used to rattle, now everything does. and it has cracked my dash. so ill be buying ANOTHER one soon.
