anybody have any good suggestions for a clean sounding component set with an amp? my budget is around 500 bucks, ive been out of the car audio scene for a while now and i dont really know whats good anymore

oh and if anyone knows where i can get those pods for the tweeters to go where the plastic panels for the mirrors are, that would be great too

I have ecplise comps with a pioneer 4 channel and it sounds awesome in my opinion. My tweeters are mounted like 6 inches above the speaker in the door panel. Located right in front of the door handle. Looks really clean too!

        ????

But I DO suggest getting out there and listening to as many sets as you can. What type of music do you listen to? Can you attempt to describe what type of sound you're looking for? What you expect out of these?

the problem is that all i have in my area are best buys and circut citys, I just cant find much faith in the quality of their products... its not that brands like alpine are terrible, i just remember the best component sets being brands outside the electronic store chains

i listen to pretty much anything you can think of... i change up my music styles ALOT, anything from rock, rap, acoustic, live music, jam bands, etc....

the best way i can describe what i want is that sharp highs, but not painfully sharp. good midbass, not too worried about the lows since i have a single 10" sub in the hatch.

im not expecting competition loudness... i want the best quality sound i can get for the money.

What brand/model is your sub amp? Or have you not purchased that yet? Also, do you have rear speakers you plan on powering with this amp? Or just the front stage?

i dont have any pics but i think there is only like one model of elcipse 6.5 comps. Check out crutchfield cuz i know that they have them. I think they run like 250 or so. What you described is exactly how they sound. They have awesome highs but not ear piercing and the lows/mids are good but you would still need a sub, which you have.

                          Re: Component/Amp setup

after changing my mind many times, i finally settled on (and received today) focal 165 VR's. they are going in tomorrow, but in the mean time i have to find an amp that will power them. the RMS power rating on the components is 75 watts @ 4 ohms, but i know they can probably handle more... a local car audio shop has an amp for sale, a rockford 500.2, link here: http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...n_US&p_status=
it has the power that im looking for, but what worries me is that it is designed to push subwoofers... my old mantra with car audio was "power is power", but is it really? i dont want to get terrible sound out of these speakers i just dropped a good chunk of change on...

It's a regular ol' class A/B amp.... what makes you think it was designed for subwoofer use exclusively?

it said somewhere on there that it was made for pushing 2 subs, i ended up going with a different amp anyway...

i finished the install earlier today, about 6 1/2 hours total (ugh). tweeters are mounted in the doors angled to the opposite person (driver tweeter to the passenger and vice versa), i put the crossovers in the glove box, looks pretty clean overall. im really happy with the sound, there is no distortion until it gets way past uncomfortably loud, so i wont be hearing much of that. the highs are crisp but not overwhelming, which i was slightly concerned about since i didnt end up getting a soft dome tweeter.

hopefully ill get some pictures up when i can figure out how to get them off my camera and onto here...
