i used to have 2 type r's ..but i had a **** amp....i sold them becasue i thought the subs just suk...but when the kid came and tested the subs with his hifonics amp they bumped like no other...i felt like an ******* for selling them.....
im going to buy type r's again...but i need to know a good amp to power them to make them thummmmmmp....please help me out guys...i would greatly appreciate it.....since im retarded when it comes to audio
My personal favorites for amp include:
Kicker, Zapco, Elemental Designs, JBL..
I've heard good things about MTX, but my dad has an MTX amp powering an MTX sub and it sounds horrible. I don't know if it's the sub or the amp that sounds bad, but for this reason I stay away from the brand.
I gave you brands that you pretty much can't go wrong with. What is your setup? ported or sealed enclosure? how many subs? what's the rms handling of them? What are you looking for out of the setup?
two type r's.... i was lookin into a sealed box casue thats wat i used to have..but not sure if thats a good choice....i just want the best sound...lookin to spend arpund 200 or lil more for a decent amp
I run a PPI 2300am amp to a 10" DVC type R in a sub thumb stealth box, gets plenty of power.
08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake
96' Camaro M5 to A4 conversion, alot of mods . GT35R Turbo full suspension. Built engine
One way to save a good amount is by buying a previous years model new on ebay. That's what I did and got it for about half the price as the newest model.
While 175W to each sub would certainly be enough to round out the bottom end of any music, I suspect you want a little more bass considering you have two in the first place, in which case I would probably go for something with a little more power. The RMS rating on those is 500W, so you won't have to worry about getting too powerful an amp in that budget. I would suggest looking through some of the brands mentioned and finding an amp with enough power to make you happy.
Personally, I'm running 175 to a stealth box and it's much more than enough than I'll ever want, but I bought the sub to round out the bottom end of my music, not to bust out my ear drums.
Right. You said you have two of the subs you linked to, which can handle 500W rms. So you could have a 1000W amp pushing them at max power for extended periods and won't have to worry about blowing the subs. For under $200, I don't see you getting a decent amp that has more than 1000W rms, so you won't have to worry about getting too powerful an amp within your budget. So if you want to push your subs at all, I'd look some of the brands I listed and see what kind of output you can get for your budget.
The max power amp you can get will have 1000w RMS at 2 ohms. Run the two subs in parallel for the 2ohms.
If you buy an amp with the above specs you are perfect. Any more and you risk blowing the subs, any less and you are good. If I were you I would get an amp that delivers 800w @ 2ohms so you don't have to worry about blowing anything.
We need to be sure those subwoofers are indeed dual 4 ohm subwoofers. (They are offered in dual 2 as well) If you'll note in this item: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1140392384210
it is listed as "Dual voice coil 8 ohm", however they are dual 4 ohm. So take Best Buy's word with a grain of salt. Go there and see the box for yourself.
If they are dual 4 ohm, you can wire them in a parallel/parallel configuration for a final load of 1 ohm on the amp.

get a kicker 1200.1 , you can pick them up off ebay cheap, and just don't go crazy with the gain and bass boost, and they will bump like no other. I hooked up my alpine 1500 watt amp to my buddy's type r's and they took 750 a piece like a champ, with no smells or bottoming out. Good luck, but i would put atleast rms wattage to the subs. rms is what the subs should be run at. It's the magic number that will give your great performance and power. Underpowering subs limits their potential and output.
