Ok so I'm pretty retarded when it comes to sound systems, but I was looking at replacing all 4 speakers, and possibly adding a sub with the stealth enclosure. My question is what would you recommend as far as speakers, amps, and subs go without costing too much money.

whats your budget? as far as costs go, you are the best off buying most of it off of that little thing called ebay. some good cheaper brands IMO are Pioneer, kenwood, alpine, phoenix gold, diamond, eclipse... usually the mantra in car audio is you get what you pay for, for the most part. there of course will be the crap speakers that are overpriced (audiobahn's 'DUB Edition' comes to mind)

ive got 2500 watts in my system with 2 10s, 4 6 1/2s, and (now only) 1 1/2 tweeters. theres a total of probably $600 in the whole system.

how much money are you willing to spend, how loud do you want it to be, and most important... how resourceful are you?

a stealth enclosure is going to give you limited amounts of bass. but its all in what youre looking for. there are very many variables to consider when planning a system.

2500 watts is alot of power for 6 speakers... i have a 10" sub and 4 speakers and im only putting about 600 watts to them. whats your setup?

I'm looking to spend $300-400 tops, I don't need it to be extremely loud but at the same time I don't like the wimpy stock setup

            Ouch....

After the stealth box, sub, amp, and wiring you're close to $250 minimum. I'd strongly advise coming up with a couple few hundred more bucks..... or buy used gear. Vice buying $30 Funky Pup subwoofers and $25 legacy speakers.

4 3 way pioneer 6 1/2s, 2 alpine type r 10s. one 600 watt 4 channel jensen, 1 1920 watt 2 channel power acoustik. rear 6 1/2s get 150 each, front 6 1/2s share 150 with the tweeters (well tweeter, see my other thread) and the 10s are getting around 900 each. this all getting its signal via pre amp only from a sony active black panel receiver. bear in mind these are all peak values. it has fidelity and power  theres a pic of it in the "post your sound system" thread.

only components that were purchased new were the 2 alpine 10s, 2 of the pioneer 6 1/2s, the tweeters, and the power acoustik amp. being resourceful saves a lot of money. no i didnt steal or buy stolen :slap:

if you havent abused the stock speakers, they should sound just fine, i have a rockfordphosgate P2 in my hatch and its really over kill for the car, you would be just fine with a P1 punch, car toys sells a box for like 24.99 which is cheaper than you can make it, i just got rid of my last amp i had for sale. if you look on ebay or wait for sales at beset buy or close outs at car toys you can find a great deal. when it comes to buying an amp for your sub it really doesnt matter aslong as its name brand since your running mono channels. if you go up to best buy or car toys let them know your budget and they will usually guide you in the best path.

as far as set ups go ive had a few diffrent set ups and the best i found is this...

                -12 inch sub, sealed box
-alpine deck (middle of the line series)
-about a 200-400 watt amp going to the sub
-(if the money is left over) get 2 sets of the infinity speakers speakers with angeled tweeters (about 70 bucks a piece)

look around for used stuff too you can always find someone looking for money

If i was you i would just go out and buy 2 nice sets of 6.5's and then buy a 400 watt 4 channel amp, and hook it all up and see if you like it, then you can decide whether you want a sub or not. And i see nice 6.5 sets on ebay for 60 bucks all the time. Alpine type r's, pioneers, anything in that range will sound alot better than stock without costing you a ton.

Or buy a 5-channel amp to power the whole damn thing.

Do the 6.5"s.... and if you still want the sub, the power is there. No need to add a second amp.

                      Re: Recommendations

Get a decent head unit (HU) that can put out 4x50w, and has a pre-amp out. For that get 4x6.5 speakers than will work with the HU.
For the bass I would recommend the Kenwood bass pack (2x10") it comes with two subs and an amp. To expand later on you can buy another identical amp and run one sub off each.
To put the subs in, a 2 cubic foot sealed box is easiest, you can just put it in the rear drop down, and thats where subs sound best in my opinion.*

*I spend 1/2 a day moving my box all over; it sounds best in the rear drop down pointing straight up. Can you say back massage? :D
