They really aren't the way to go... Shoddy installation, along with lack of product knowledge (not as bad as best buy, but i digress) make them less than holy in my eyes. Not to mention for 1300 bucks i pieced together a sick single sub system with a custom made box that would DECIMATE that system in sound quality and for sure in SPL.
The cd player with a ipod cable (same model as shown above) was only 200 bucks installed, so i guess that was a good deal, however they screwed up the install on that and the power cuts off and on periodically... from now on im sticking to buying my products from outside of the department store world, and installing them myself.

He bought his items from a local Department store. You bought yours online. You can't compare how much he spent, to how much you spent. Ever receive a product that's DOA or dies in 3 days? And let's hope it sure as hell wasn't bought off Ebay. 50/50 shot at getting a replacement, let alone your return shipping paid for. If you purchased from Circuit City, within 30 days, they don't care what happened to the product. It's removed from your vehicle and a new one is reinstalled for you while you peruse through the local mall. On that note, Kicker offers a 1-year over the counter replacement IF BOUGHT FROM AN AUTHORIZED RETAILER. Not too many people know that....

If you're having problems with a headunit you had Circuit City install, take it back! The labor is guaranteed for life. And depending on the installer, if the headunit is faulty.... they'll switch it out, warranty or not. They couldn't care less.

Also, like I've said many times on this board, the knowledge level of the associates varies GREATLY. Some associates may actually work in computers and are just filling in for the car audio department. Or maybe there is simply a mass of people in car audio and nobody in MP3 players, so they're just there to help the best they can. So long as the associate is not rude to you, take them as a blessing. They do the best they can and are never rude. In the end, it's your decision on the equipment to buy. With that said, I recently picked up a "for fun" job in the Circuit City install bay. Anytime you want to come into the shop in Melbourne, FL and criticize my lack of knowledge and shoddy installs.... let me know.

        Re: New system

I don't have a problem with Circuit city anymore. I prefer to install my own stuff, but if I don't have the time, I take it to them. They've done a few things for my friends' cars, and it looks and sounds really nice. It just depends on who you get. Plus, if you're there often, you'll make a friend, and he can get you in on discounts and such :D. I remember, I brought my Rockford P1 back to CC when I blew it. My best bud knew the dude and he started talking to him while I went to get the sub. Walked back in, handed it to him and he handed me a brand new one right from the box. No questions asked, no receipt needed, nothing :D

I'm not saying that everyone sucks at circut city... All I'm saying is that my experience was not all that great, and as I sit here typing this in my car, my head unit has now cut out 7 times... They claim it wasn't due to their install, however I beg to differ... Firebird I know that you know your **** so I'm not getting into it with you, not every CC installer has your knowledge.

and no ive never had a problem with anything i have bought off of ebay/online, and with the $$$ that ive saved, I'd say ill be able to take a hit of a faulty sub/amp or 2 and still be in the + when it comes to money spent

Silver, I dont know how long it's been, but take it back. I'm sorry you're having issues, but none of my installers would allow this to fly. It certainly doesn't sound like a faulty headunit. If they are totally puzzled on how to troubleshoot your problem (then they dont deserve to work for CC #1) #2.... tell them to swap out the headunit side speedharness. We've had MANY issues with sketchy harnesses straight from Metra. We give every single one the torture test before it leaves now.
