  • New Subwoofer Setup =)

    Just got my room mate's spare 15" Rockford Fosgate HX2 600W RMS installed in my car with a 500/1 Mono JL Audio amp. It hits pretty damn hard! You can definitely piss of the neighbors with the t-tops off :banana:

    We used the rockford fosgate 4awg wiring kit through the PCM grommet, worked pretty well, but does anyone else find it difficult to actually use the battery terminal for power? We ended up using AUX battery terminal for power as we could actually clip to it:

    Pix could be better, but it was dusky and rainy out so the flash didn't help much for focus/quality.

    The perfect ground seemed to be the seat belt bolt under the plastic cover where the rear set of speakers is. It works especially well since the fosgate kit comes with an insanely short ground wire (cheap bastards!) You can just roughen the paint up a bit and slide the ground under the loose bolt as its such a huge bolt and seal with silicone if you are worried about corrosion.

    Any how let me know what you think of the setup =D.

    You have the amp wire to the correct terminal. Box in the back seat with the amp screwed on top. You're takin' in back to the old school!

        You're power wire needs to be connected directly to the battery. If you only have side terminals on the battery, then you need something like this:

        Any car audio retailer should sell them if you're in a hurry.

        And that is the old school HX2 as well. Gotta be about 8 years old because I bought the newer version HX2's in Dec 2000.

            You can't hook an amp to the AUX terminal?

              What gauge wire is going to the AUX terminal? And what else is that wire powering?

              Obviously each application is a little different. How much current each amp draws, wire length/gauge, etc.... so "will he run into problems when connected like this?" is a question for a psysics major. Rule of thumb is always run directly off the battery. It is the rule of thumb because it is the safest solution for everyone.

                Iduno... looks pretty hefty to me. Then again, I'm only powering a small amp off an 8GA wire, so it worked for me.

                  Doubtful it's 4g. So he's now drawing the amp's (as well as anything else connected to the AUX box) full demand through 8g wire..... not the 4g he spent the money on. Get it? Also, your fuse is not within 18" of the battery.

                    Well it's not really that bad, all wires are running through the passenger panel and the center console for RCA. None of them are visible from seating locations. Overall its a pretty clean install and I never use my back seats any way.

                    @96firebird311

                    I'm going to re-wire it in the front, because it does make sense (what you guys are saying). Do you think advanced auto or similar would carry a part like this or best buy even? Because I'd go out and buy today. Probably one for negative too for a bigger 4awg ground from the battery?

                    @00 Silver 6

                    They are old-school, he got them a long while ago. His car got stolen a few years ago but they didn't take the amp/subs for some odd reason though they stole the rims and (except for 1 they couldn't take off.) Since then he has not had a big enough car for two of these puppies so I got his spare. It definitely puts out some good clean base. I have no complaints! The JL amp is also very nice in my opinion and my friends who looked at it seem to agree and/or want to buy one now, though they also complained about the AUX setup :P.

                    If anyone wants to get one of these amps get it online, because you can get one online for $300-400. Tweeter wanted some ridiculous MSRP amount like $800 at the one I went to.

                      Like I said, any local retailer should carry them. I know circuit city does, so I'm sure Best Buy does too.

                            Well my local stores didn't seem to have it and thought I was crazy, because they don't know that there is such a thing as side battery terminals (guess they drive cars with top ones :-/, lots of rice here =P). I'm just gonna order this stuff online tonight. I need to re-do the RCA so that they are the side mounted ones instead of straight connectors cuz i had to plug them into the forward channel so the deck would fit and currently use my amp to control the gain instead of having more control through the deck. I think for now as long as I don't crank it to full power and don't go on cross country trips I should be okay until the parts come in a few days. The amp it self and all wiring seems ice cold unless i really crank it and then the amp only feels lukewarm after a while.
