    Re: b-day gift help

I'd recommend anything from JVC's Arsenal line. They're site is down right now though :(

I don't think you understand what I'm getting at here.... :whiteflagsmiley:

And Kevin, the reason volume was entering the conversation was due to the iPod outputing distortion when maxed out. I have witnessed it a dozen times on a dozen different cars. So in terms of the sound quality output when using the headphone out, yes, the volume setting does affect quality.

You have something wrong with your setup or settings then if you're getting no bass from your iPod.

I'll tell ya what cam98aro, get a real ipod hookup to your head unit instead of the headphone jack adaptors to the auxilary input. Heh yeah I'm making assumptions but eh, I have experience in that area. I can't even mess with settings or anything directly on my ipod when its hooked to my car. It's all done through the head unit. I've even got a cheap *** sub and amp that suprisingly sounds really good with the ipod.

Iduno, but as I was driving home, a track from Bass Mekanik came on my iPod and shook the GPS off my windshield. It made me thing of this thread. What HU do you have? I know my Pioneer has individual settings for each input. Technically, I could kill the bass from my external input.

                      Re: b-day gift help

Just because the audio track came from a CD originally doesn't mean the MP3 on the iPod is the exact same as the track on disc. (something you seem to not understand) Again, double check the actual bitrate that your CDs were ripped onto your iPod. Find the files on your PC and check it out. I know it was a "identical copy" from a CD....but you can have the same song at 64kbps and at 320kbps. Or anywhere in between. Just because it came from a CD, doesn't make them the same once it's on your iPod. Please understand this....

If this is not your problem, the 9883 has seperate audio settings for each source of audio on your headunit. If you'll note page 14 in your owners manual it states:

*The bass level settings will be individually memorized for each
source (FM, AM, CD, etc.) until the setting is changed. The bass
frequency and bass bandwidth settings adjusted for one source are
effective for all other sources (FM, AM, CD, etc.).
*Depending on the connected devices, some functions and display
indications do not work. However, Bass Level is still adjustable if an
audio processor with the Bass function is connected.

So it would appear that you could have the bass set pretty low for the iPod source and a little higher for CD and FM. Also, certain bass features may not be available when using the iPod source, but you may have them in use for CD and FM. Just another thing for you to check.

ill look at it, but it seems you are not understanding what i am saying

even if i did rip a cd is 128, and reburnt the cd from that rip, and added those songs to the ipod, there would still be no bass

                          Finally we're making some sense...

Then you obviously have a setting incorrect on your headunit. Or it is possible a certain bass related feature you use with CDs/FM radio is not available when using the iPod source. Point being, a boat load of us are having great success using the iPod as a source of audio in our cars.

EDIT: And for future reference, stick to 192kbps and above....

you probably hooked something up wrong, somewhere... or you dont have a sub... or you dont have speakers that produce a lot of lows... my ipod was pretty much my sole source of music and i can guarantee you that i had more than enough bass for me, you, and your mother.
