Not worth your time/money. Even if you could fix the knob, the stock headunits drop like flies. Spend the $150 in a new headunit and install parts. Look for open box deals at Circuit City. And hell.... if you're serious about going aftermarket, let me know. I have an antenna adapter lying around here you can have for the price of postage. (Prolly 50 cents)

Pay no attention to the yellow words. The plug on the left is a General Motors antenna wire. This comes from the antenna mast and plugs into the stock radio to allow FM/AM reception. Unfortunately, EVERY aftermarket headunit manufacturer uses the plug on the right. So you need an adapter to allow your stock antenna wire to plug into your new aftermarket headunit. Circuit City charges $18? for them. I'm sure most any other install shop would be about the same price.

There's not really much you can do. Give the knob a gentle pull and see if it pops off. Maybe try cleaning around that whole area. But honestly, there's really no chance of that helping seeing as how volume changes by itself. (Meaning the knob doesn't even move) lol Sorry.

The knob is physically broken!? I assumed it was just faulty. Especially because he said the volume changes by itself. Krazy Glue!

Ok that's what I thought. Oh so common on anything with a "knob" to change volume. Both in the car audio world and home audio world. You should be able to snag a brand new Pioneer of Ebay for as little as $100. Then roughly $40 in parts and 15 minutes of your time.

                            Re: volume problem

I know what you are talking about, my first fbody, 94 firebird did the same thing.

I fiddled with it for quite a while and nothing happened. sometimes you'd just be driving with the radio quite and it would turn it up full blast on its on, sometimes...

but the knob barely worked like your saying.

If you dont really care about aftermarket car audio stuff, you could just buy a used (stock) headunit on ebay for alot cheaper, just swap them out.
