I made a board that fit where my spare tire went and used some drilled 2x4s as washers. Then used the spare tire rod and wingnut to tighten it in. Its not the greatest looking amprack, but you can't see it! lol. It should have enough room to screw my mono amp onto when it gets here and no one will know I have amps to steal and it didnt cost any money. Just add my stealth box im making and no one will ever know I have a nice sound system.

Re: amp rack idea
Oh dear god no!!! Here you are sir, don't hurt me! :P
It could have worked better if I took time on it, but it can't be seen, so I did it in like 5 minutes. This was before all the wires were tied up too.

Re: amp rack idea
If you cut it so it actually filled that area up and gave more mounting space it could look decent too. I tried to thread that rod and was going to cut it shorter to eliminate the 2x4s, but my dads tap set just wasn't cutting it with that steel. no pun intended...or was it.Last edited by deftons56; 03-06-2008, 01:16 AM.

Re: amp rack idea
I say get some gray speaker carpet over it and will look decent.
God you have alot of room! I have a convertible.. and I swear I have less room in that area. I ended up mounting my amps to trunk lid.. not a great idea trust me. trunk does not stay open by itslef now hhahahhaa harder to break into trunk so that is a plus.

Re: amp rack idea
the only problem with that setup is theres no room for airflow to cool the amp.
The amp will more than likely overheat, and either fry a channel or go in and out of protect mode constantly.
It may be fine now, but its still winter, and wait till summer and your music cuts in and out like musical chairs.*Matt

Re: amp rack idea
Thats a good idea and if you're up to it you should try and make it look real nice, it has potential. Eventually if it looks nice you could cut away part of the plastic and put in a plexiglass window and vht it or something so you still cant see it. Add some led lights into it and turn them on so you can see through it when you want. Im planning on doing that with my amps but they will be right in the window so its of more use then because down there you cant really see it anyway. And if you werent going to make it look nice then just remember that when you want to actually show it off people may comment on the looks, so if you care what people say make it look good and the feedback would be awesome. Not bashing it at all, still think its a good idea, and i like it, but you should figure a way to get some ventilation in there. Maybe cut some slits into the plastic or add an exhaust fan or something. Good job.

Re: amp rack idea
maybe thats a bad angle, but that area is plenty big enough for air to circulate, and without the jack in there there is kinda a vent flap of carpet between the plastic and ground. Also, the reason I put it there is so that people dont see it. You dont need to see it, just hear it. But im not too into the whole bling factor anyways, different strokes for different folks i guess.

Re: amp rack idea
IICR, that amp has an internal cooling fan, and already has a blue led in it. I would be more concerned about vibration in the well from the plywood board than I would the heat. Maybe some dynamat?
All in all it looks really good. It's great to see guys custom fabricate stuff. I swear, if three or four of us got together, we could put Unique Autosport out of business!

what do you think about a tiny fan inside that area? if you could find a very small oscilating fan or whatnot you could technically wire it into say the Remote wire terminal if he had one and he could mount it so it had air running over it whenever the amp was on. I have a neon light rigged into my remote wire terminal and it's on whenever the amp is so wouldn't that be a viable optin?
what do u think?

Re: amp rack idea
That'd work as a perfect addition to the fan thats built into the amp.Y87 Package

Re: amp rack idea
you would still probably need an exhaust fan if the air inside there is really hot. in the summer the heat could possibly build up in there and its a possibility that it could overheat. If you arent using it a lot at one time maybe not but its a possibility. its up to you but a little exhaust fan in the bottom wouldnt be that bad of an idea, also maybe another fan at the top to bring cooler air from the inside of the car into it. but like i said its up to you and its still a nice job and a cool idea. you could always use it how it is and if you have problems of it overheating and going into protect mode you could always add them in after.
