OK my factory system has all the signs of being a monsoon except there is no amp by the spare tire. so were would the amp be? or the cross over for the factory subs if there is one. this hole monsoon or not thing has got me going crazy, and sorry if this is a repeat Q. i am running an after market HU.

if you're running a aftermarket HU, then the amp was probably removed due to the fact it can't be used with an aftermarket HU.

yeah but there isn't even the wiring harness for the amp so did they take it all out? the HU is wired in with the adapter and all, according to the receipt i found in the glove box the HU was installed at Best Buy.

Sorry bro but,:twak:. The entire Monsoon system can in fact be used with any aftermarket headunit without any modifications. Which also makes me ask.... what "adapter" did Best Buy use?

Second, is it possible you have the Bose system vice Monsoon?

Third, here's some info from our FAQ thread:
        Monsoon System:
Indash CD-Player or Cassette Deck, 10-speakers (6-3/4" mid and separate tweeter located in each door, 6-3/4" dual voice coil subwoofer located on the sides where the rear passengers sit, 4" mids along with tweeters located wayy back in the hatch area.) and a factory Amp which is located next to where the spare tire is (the amp mounts on a plastic plate and tucks inside the rear fender area, you have to remove the spare tire to see it).

        Regular Stock System:
Indash CD-Player or Cassette Deck and 4 speakers. (Two 6-3/4" speakers up front, one in each door... and two 6-3/4" speakers in back where the rear passengers sit)

There's also anoter system called the "Entertainment System" which is exactly the same as the Monsoon (same layout, amp, speakers, etc.); however, it just doesn't say monsoon. Open your drivers door and look on the side of the door for the RPO codes (3-digit codes). See if you have any of these:

UL0 AM/FM Cassette ETR 200 Watt Monsoon Sound System w/cassette

I thought the Monsoon system ran all their stuff at 2Ohms or something, so you could use any HU, but the speakers will get more then the rated power since they're rated at 4Ohms, but are drawing at 2?

And my dad has that U62 package....what's the "Dual Coaxial Package Shelf?"

I have no clue what all those packages really mean. I had no Monsoon but 4 ohm coaxils up front and 10 ohm woofers in the sail panels in my 96 bird. No hatch speakers. Kinda weird. Whatever. lol

And the headunit does not care what impedance the speakers are. That's the amplifier's job. Yes the headunit does output a little more power into the factory amp, which thereby outputs a little more power to the speakers, but the difference is not enormous. I've done a million of them. It's not like adding a headunit in most other upgraded factory systems. I've done other cars where everything seems to connect right up, and then you turn it on and can't even listen to it at volume setting 5.... lol Then if it was a Sony that you installed, they beep every gosh darn time you push a button and are independent from the volume knob. *BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP* At ear piecing volumes. LOL
