  • 4-channel amp vs mono?

i need a little help figuring out what would be best for the subs that i want to get, my dad just found a pretty nice deal on a 4-channel rockford fosgate Punch 450.4 Amplifier for $50, but ive been reading up on amps and it says mono is the way to go and im not sure which amp would go best with two CVR 12" subs which have a power handling of 50 to 800 watts RMS

circuit city recommend a $500 dollar kicker amp spitting out 375 watts RMS to go along with that, and since i have pretty much no knowledge of any of this stuff im not sure if they are telling the truth about that being the only one for it or if they are just bsing me to spend more

any opinions on what i should do or get are greatly appreciated :D

A mono amp is going to power your subs in a better way than a multi channel amp. The point of a mono amp is to have both subs hit at the same time, basically meaning that it's a single channel amp with two outputs for woofers. You can bridge a multi channel amp, making the power output higher, but I don't really think that you are going to have as much power as you want unless you get the mono. You can order a really good amp on ebay brand new, search Kenwood 9104D, it's a 900 RMS mono amp with dual cooling fans for less than 200 shipped new

4-channel amps are not to be used to power subwoofers.

Kenwood is run-of-the-mill in my opinion. Certainly nothing special, but I'd use their products over the "Auto Zone special."

First, we need to know if the subs you have are the dual 2 ohm version or the dual 4 ohm version. Or did you buy them pre-loaded in a Kicker box already? If so, it should have the load printed right on the terminal cup. We need to know it so we can select the proper amp for you.

Second, Circuit City does not sell a $500 375WRMS Kicker amp. Not sure where the confusion is coming in there. If you want to keep it the same brand name for whatever reason, go with the ZX750.1. Even that is under $500.... so like I said, there is some confusion somewhere.

But I would recommend just buying off Ebay. Tons of awesome deals on there. Twice then amp for half the price of retailers a lot of the time. Hifonics is a decent brand for someone looking for a good bang for the buck. Trustworthy and cheap. Yeah that's right. I used those two words in the same sentence. What?:D

OMG please don't buy your amp or any gear at circuit city/best buy/etc..... Do your self a favor, stay away from those stores and stores that specialize in car audio unless you happen to know a small one that has good prices or something... They are all a rip off in my experience. I bought a nice 500/1 JL Audio (500w RMS mono) amp for like under $400 online, in fact I just looked up my ebay profile and found I bought it from this guy:

Some local store, i think it was Tweeter wanted like $800 for the same thing. And my local best buy had nothing in the power range I needed. They probably dont in your area either and want you to buy their most powerful (yet under-powered) amp.
