Ok, so I have put a new headunit in my car. I have also put in 2 alpine type r's and an old kicker amp. it sounds alright, but it has the monsoon amp and i already read on here it could be tricky to rewire, so i did not touch the monsoon amp or speakers at all. only the headunit and subs were added. Only problem is that my middle speakers do not work any more, not a crackle, not a peep. I do not believe they would have both fried at once, so I was wondering whast could cause this. any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: Please Help ME!!!
Welcome to the board!:)
Ok. New headunit. Cool. RCAs ran to the amp, correct? You didnt use high-level inputs into the amp from the rear speakers or anything?
You can easily remove those stock speakers, The grill comes right off. Pull them out and test them with a multimeter to ensure they DIDN'T blow at the same time.

Re: Please Help ME!!!
Yes I ran the RCA's all the way from the headunit to the amp. I am second guessing myself because I am not sure if they worked before I installed everything. I pulled them out, like you said it was easy, and tested them. They both work. I am lost and if anyone has had this situation please let me know as i do not have lots of free time to witchhunt in my car to find the problem. I was going to put some Boston Acoustic SX-65's in there anyways, so should I bring it in, get them installed at a store, and get them to fix it, or is there a quick fix that I obviosly dont know about.
Whoever posts, I thank you very much and sorry if there is a thread about this stuff somewhere as I am new to here.
Thanks alot!!!
Tom

Re: Please Help ME!!!
Did the sail panel speakers ever work after you installed the headunit/amp/sub?
Sorry but there really is no reason for this. Installing an aftermarket headunit with the Monsoon system requires nothing special or out of the ordinary. It's plug and play. RCAs and remote wire being connected to an aftermarket amp powering subs is completely separate, and has no effect on, the entire Monsoon. The Monsoon system is completely unaware that an aftermarket amp even exists. Even if you did a sub-par job at splicing the headunit harnesses and one of the speaker wires was touching ground, the entire internal amplifier in the headunit would shut down. No output at all.
Not sure of the method you used to test the sail panel speakers when you removed them. If I had the car in the shop troubleshooting it.... I guess I would turn on the ignition and use a tone generator on the speaker leads coming out of the headunit. If the fronts responded and the rears did not, I would use the tone generator at the outputs on the Monsoon amp. If they still didn't respond, I'd take the sail panel speakers out and touch the tone generator directly to the stock connector. If they don't respond to that, they're toast.
I'm placing my money on.... you replaced the headunit sending more power to the Monsoon amp. At the same time, you installed a shiny new pair of subs. While listening to your new toys, you had the headunit up pretty loud trying to keep up with the newly acquired thump under the hatch. Keep in mind that with a higher power headunit, it doesn't take much volume knob to force that Monsoon amp to pump out power. You probably couldn't even hear the sail panel speakers distorting.... just before they took a dump.Last edited by 96firebird311; 04-28-2008, 08:33 PM.

Re: Please Help ME!!!
The sail panel speakers in a Monsoon system are subwoofers. They are sent a low-passed signal from the Monsoon amp. If you replace them with regular co-axil speakers, you will only get bass out of them. Doubt they'll sound very good or last very long under those conditions.

Those are perfect replacements. You'll need the dual 4 ohm version (D4). $130/pair may seem expensive to some. But these are damn decent speakers.
