  • sail panel speaker issues (non-bose)

i have a non bose system in my car now, but the only thing that remains stock are the sail panel speakers. I have a pioneer head unit, with Focal component sets in the front doors, powered by a pioneer 4 channel bridged for 150 watts @ 4 ohms per component set. (if specific model #'s are needed just let me know and ill get them when i get home from school)

before i had the speakers in the front doors, i could get undistorted sound out of the sail panel speakers. but now that i have the components, if i try putting any sound through the sail panels, they immediately distort. i just faded the sound stage to the front, but after awhile im really starting to notice that hole in the sound behind me. im about to just unbridge the 4 channel, and put 60 watts to the components along with the sail panels. id rather just have the Focals getting as much power as they can handle.... i cant imagine how they are just distorting all of a sudden, i figure it has to do with the signal, but this is stumping me.

Sail panel speakers are always the first to go. My guess is that they're toast. Try disconnecting the remote wire from the amp so that only the sails are playing. With the volume setting at 0, try playing a CD and slowly raising the volume. They just distort right away? They probably headed south after trying to keep up with the big boys in the doors. You could always swap in a known good speaker and see if the results are similar. If that cures the problem, obviously the sails are done for.

ok they work fine when i fade the sound stage to the rear, play loud and clear... the speakers are obviously working, but for some reason when they are trying to play in conjunction with the Focal's, they just distort right away, at very low volumes
