  • Quick amp wiring question.

Recently I installed a kicker zr240 amp into my car. It pumps out 320 watts max. I wired it using a 200 watt amp wiring kit. here are the specs:

    • MONSTER STANDARD® 8 GUAGE POWER CABLE DELIVERS MAXIMUM POWER.

    • ATC TYPE FUSE HOLDER PROVIDE PROTECTON AGAINST SYSTEM SURGES AND DAMAGE.

    • 24K GOLD CONTACT PROVIDE MAXIMUM SIGNAL TRANSFER.

    KIT INCLUDES :

18 FEET OF MONSTER STANDARD® POWER CABLE.

3 FEET OF MONSTER STANDARD GROUND CABLE.

IN LINE FUSE HOLDER WITH 30 AMP FUSE.

16 FEET OF 18 GUAGE REMOTE TURN-ON WIRE.

24K GOLD CONTACT 8 GUAGE RING TERMINALS ONE 5/16" AND ONE 3/8"

The amp was powering 2 alpine type R's and they seemed mighty underpowered. I recently purchased an alpine Pdx 1.1000. its around 1000 watts. Now, to get the most of the amp, do I need to rewire it as a larger guage of wire? If I just switched amps would I be doing something wrong? how about the fuse from the battery? does that have to increase in size?

    Re: Quick amp wiring question.

I can help you with that. First off 2 type r's can handle almost 2k watts in the right enclosure. Second. That amp is WAY underpowering those subs. Even if it was only one sub. If you upgrade your amp to a pdx1000 that will be a huge improvment. And yes you will need to upgrade your power wire. You can probably get away with a good 4ga wire. check out knukonceptz. They make a good product. Not the most flexible. but very good wire at the least and cheap. soo

    new amp
    better wire
after you get that amp your probably wont even hear your mids/high.
So it will be time to upgrade them.
Shoot me a message if you need some more help.
Car audio is my hobby. Very expensive hobby.

ooo. and you don't place the fuse to the current the amp pulls. You fuse to the rating of the wire. For instance if i'm not mistaken good quality 4ga handles 150A max. Cheap 0/1 takes about 250A and most good/all 0/1 handles 300A. just something to keep in mind. I've got 0/1 in my car. My 2 amps are pulling about 180A together at full tilt.

That tiny Kicker amp is child's play when compared to the Alpine. Yes, you will need to replace that 8g wire with 4g. The 4g kit will come with a new, higher amperage, fuse. knukonceptz.com IS a great site. Been using their products for years.

        This one will work great:
