X-over settings...

I have a Alpine 2-channel amp for a set of 10" subs, and a Alpine 4-channel amp for the rest (2 in the doors, 2 rear) As far as crossover settings, if you have the sub amp with low pass filter on, and set the x-over at about 100Hz, what should the other amp be set at?? Should it be left as full range? Or if you set the high pass filter on, should it be set at 100Hz as well, or should there be an overlap - set at 80 or 90Hz?? - Paul

Whatever sounds best to you. I would recommend a high pass filter on your other speakers. But I seriously doubt you'll be able to tell a difference between a 80Hz and 90Hz high pass setting.

OK, I didn't know if there is a "rule of thumb" for setting x-over frequencies on multiple amps. What I am experiencing though is having the low-pass on the sub amp set at 100Hz, and the high-pass on the main amp also at 100Hz, if a bass guitar is ranging between the two, the sub amp will pick up the low end (obviously), as the freq swings up past the setting, the sub amp is attenuated and the main amp sort of picks it up. Its like I'm "missing" freqs. Hard to explain, just doesn't sound quite right. I'll have to mess around with it a bit. The potentiometers may not have the same value as what is indexed on the amp itself. So what it reads as 100Hz may actually be a higher / lower value.

May nothing. That should be practically a given. It's close, but it would be hard to ballpark within 10Hz I'm sure. You'll have to play with them a little till you get something you're happy with.

Yeah, i suppose i'll play around w/it; i just hate having to open the hatch, move the sub boxes, make small adjustments, reposition sub boxes, close the hatch, listen, do it again.....
