  • Subwoofer wiring questions

Hello everyone, recently my sub woofer kicked the bucket. It was a 12" Pyle... and I definitely got it's usage.
Anyways, I was looking to purchase a more quality sub that would hopefully be louder and last longer. I am currently running a Sony Xplod 1000 watt amp.
My budget is somewhat low and I am looking to get the best boom for my buck without buying a new amp. I would only like to purchase 1 12" sub woofer.
After reading up about ohm's, parallel, and series wiring I am starting to believe that to get the most power out of this amp would be to use: (picture below)
My question is, am I correct about this wiring to get the most power?
    Amp Output Details: 165 Watt - 4 Ohm - 20 - 20000 Hz - THD 0.04% - 14.4V DC - 2 channel(s) ¦ 200 Watt - 2 Ohm - 20 - 20000 Hz - THD 0.1% - 14.4V DC - 2 channel(s) ¦ 400 Watt - 4 Ohm - 20 - 20000 Hz - THD 0.1% - 14.4V DC - 1 channel(s)

I have narrowed down a few subs that are 2ohm DVC and they are
    12" Alpine Type-R
    12" Kicker CVR
    12" Rockford Fosgate
I really am just trying to find a well matched sub woofer for my amp without spending more than $150.
    Thanks for your input.

That is correct. And you forgot to specify which particular line of Fosgate you were looking to get.

And I like how they call it "Sony 1000W amp" but the specs clearly show 400W tops.

      Yea that is rather deceiving
Anyways I was looking at the Model Numbers
      Rockford Fosgate P3D212
      Alpine SWR-1222D
      Kicker CompVR 07CVR122

Kicker is a little cheaper than the Alpine and Rockford which run about the same cost on eBay. Any suggestions? I have heard many good thing's about the Type-R's and my friend has a CVR, but is run off a mono amp...

I currently use the CVRs, but used the Type-R prior to these. The reason for the switch was my box re-design requiring a switch from one 12" to two 10"s, combined with my ultra discount on Kicker gear. I'm happy with them. But if the price was equal, I'd pick the Type-R. I was looking at $300/pair shipped off eBay for Alpine versus $90/pair direct from Kicker.

          Re: Subwoofer wiring questions

I have 2 CVR's running off a mono amp. They each take roughly 400W, so one would be perfect for you. Rockfords are also nice; I had 2 P1's in a homemade box, and they hit nicely. I think those subs you have picked are all decent subs, it's really just upto you as to which one to get.
