  • Tweeter mounts?

Does anyone make tweeter pods for our cars? I was thinking of just opening up and putting them into the window defroster location, but then if I ever want to take them out, I won't be able to put those grills back in place. Anyone have any recommendations, or know of any pods?

Back in the day. But not within the past 5 years. Good luck finding a set. Bought mine for $75 and by the time I sold the bird, they were in such high demand, I sold them for $75. lol

They replaced the small triangle piece on each door. Prior to that I just mounted them in the a-pillar all the way up front, facing the windshield. They were fine there.

Ya, I've seen a few pics of those mounts. I thought about the A-pillar as well, or on the dash, but having a carpet dash pad doesn't really help :(. I guess they're going on the A-pillar, unless someone else chimes in with a suggestion (besides get T/A door panels).

When i was planning on getting components I was gonna put them in the door panel, a little higher than the midrange location where the doorpanel is flat. I've heard you want them to be near the midrange speaker, otherwise your music can sound "separated". Thats why most factory systems with components put the tweeters in the general area of the midrange (trans am, bmw, etc)

Put the tweeter in that triangle section that is in the corner of the door. That is the place for it. What you "heard" has no validity at all...none.

You know those hooks in the rear for clothes, etc? I'm puling them out and mounting them there. Going to angle them forward abit, and then they should be perfect; right at ear level. Gotta go pick up a new set though :(. I hooked one up and it blew right away; apparently they don't live up to the 2-50W RMS the box says; I hit them with ~20W from my H/U and pop they went :(. I talked to the owner when I bought them, and the reason I went with this set is because of their size; he did tell me they were close-out and I wouldn't be able to return them, but I thought the others would have been too big for the mounts (had planned on putting them in the defroster locations). Now that I've changed my mounting spot, I can go with something abit bigger too :)

Many people choose to install their tweeters on the doors, the sail or kick panels, or the dash. Tweeter installations require some panel modifications, as very few vehicles come with factory tweeter mounts. The degree of modification depends on the mounting method. Just as it sounds, surface-mounting places the tweeter on top of a surface, with little to no modifcations necessary. Of course, this method will leave you with a more noticeable installation. A flush-mount, on the other hand, gives a smooth, customized look. It requires cutting a hole into the door panel for the tweeter so it sits level with the interior panel. Whichever method you choose, most manufacturers recommend that you mount your tweeters within 12" of the woofers. Otherwise, the high and low frequencies may reach your ears at different times, resulting in a sonic wave cancellation or "phase interference."
