  • seperate cabinets or same shared space?

hey guys so im trying to build a sub box for my 02 bird and was wondering what would sound louder since it is a hatch, i have 2 10' sony xplods and ive seen a couple custom boxes that fit right behind the rear seat in the space there so im doing something like that . so now for my question if im going to build the box would it sound louder with the subs sharing the same cabinet or to have them both in seperate cabinets?

Id get a vented box. Best of both worlds.

If your not too picky, and just want louder, vented is probably the best bet.

I havent seen many boxes that have two subs with seperate compartments. I always see them together. I dont really think there would be a difference but to be safe i would just go with one box with the two in it. the xplods arent the best choice but if you are on a budget those are fine.

Separate cabs. Don't want them puppies fighting with each other.

If both subs are going to be powered off the same amp and are both wired in phase, they will be receiving the EXACT same signal. Therefore, it would be impossible for them to duke it out to the death.

However, Bonemaro hit the exact reason why one would want separate chambers. Likely doesn't apply here though.

A single chamber for both subs will allow you to use a single slot port. Thereby making the overall box size smaller. (or thereby giving you extra air space, whichever you choose.) Versus having two separate chambers and necessitating two separate vents. If the subs are exactly the same and being powered off the same amp, it's a no brainer. Single chamber.

Also, what are the box specs you plan on building? What frequency are you tuning to? You sure you know what you're doing?
