  • Sub worth keeping?

I have a sub (JL 12" W3) and it started to crack on the rubber that moves whenever the woofer hits. I replaced it, but still have the old one around. Is there any way of fixing this, or could it be fixed, or should I just throw it away?

Silicone. Rubber cement. I've seen more things used than you can imagine. It should work fine. Mise well run it into the ground. It's not worth anything.

Nah just replace them I had a pair of w6's that they seperated from the rubber, if you wanna pay someone it can be repaired but I dont hink its worth it for w3's imo. There is a special speaker glue that you can find at most high end audio shops that wont dry brittle and is specificaly made for speaker repairs.

how long have you had the sub? and if its under warranty you may be able to send it back and have it repaired/replaced due to a structural defect. but, then again it may have had to been proffesionaly installed for them to honor the warranty, if it wasnt that is.

              Re: Sub worth keeping?

Guys. He has already replaced the W3 and just has the torn one lying around the house. His question was if it's even worth his time to attempt a repair for fun, or should he just trash it.

And on the warranty note, 1) JL Audio covers their products for 1 year. That's it. 2) it explicitly states warranty is void if the drivers shows signs of over-powering AND I QUOTE "causing thermal (burnt voice coil) and/or mechanical failure (ripped surrounds or spiders)."
