So I'm looking to put two 12" subs in my car and I can't decide what kind of box and where to put it. I really like the subthump t-top box, but it's just too expensive. My question is, do any of you have pictures of boxes that still allow you to store your t-tops (i.e. box instead of back seats, etc...)?

Re: sub boxes
A subwoofer positioned in place of the back seat will not be as loud as one under the hatch. Not to mention it looks tacky as all hell. Thought about making one yourself? A pair of 12" stealth boxes would be WAYY sweet. I could honestly do a fiberglass/MDF set in a full weekend by myself.
Prep work , majority of glassing, and roughly cut the MDF face the first day. The second day, trim down MDF face to fit and glass the two pieces together. Observe curing time of several hours. Trim and carpet. Total money invested, roughly $75 including carpet. If you had a decent helper, you could save some time, but would still require two days. Too much cure time.

Re: sub boxes
I got a friend who owns a car audio shop and we have discussed this before. If your looking to put 12's back there, you will not have enough air space needed for the subs to sound good yet allow for the t-tops to sit in. I'm going to do more research and measurements. I dont know if you have seen the newer slim flat coned speakers from kicker but they might be a possibility. There is an option to remove the plastic hubs that house the factory mids and rebuild them with complete customs pieces, but your going to have to relocated your mids. Thats the route I am thinking atm but I'm still toying around with something I can remove and get back the stock look and not spend a bundle.

Re: sub boxes
1 cube sealed each is enough for a lot of 12"s. The Type-R comes to mind right away. Although not the perfect choice for stealth boxes, if you're going that route.
Fiberglass is friggin easy to work with provided you're not going to have it showing. If you're going to sand/paint it, then it sucks arse. Fiberglass is pretty forgiving. Just use as much resin as the mat/cloth will hold, but not so much it puddles up. Here's a walkthrough. Not exactly how I would have done everything, but it works.

Anywho, my box is in the well (for now until I do the fiberglass) and my tops lay down perfectly in the little space behind the back seat. Sometimes they slide a little, but I keep a towel back there to keep in-between them.
