    Re: sirius antenna

I've heard of people putting thier antennas for sattelite radios in thier rear quarter panels. Not too sure how they did it or how good it works but you could go ahead and try it? Good luck.

      Re: sirius antenna

I have Sirius Satellite Radio in my 1993 Firebird. I mounted my antenna in the middle of the huge dashboard cover. Then I ran the wire through the defroster vent and down behind the dash. I get perfect reception with it mounted this way.

I've heard of someone pulling the rear spoiler apart and mounting it inside of it. This is what I'm hoping to do if I ever go with XM

I was going to mount mine beneath the headliner on the sail panel, but I have something else in mind now.

              Re: sirius antenna

well i have mine on the rear quarter panel right now...and i think it might be hurting my paint some...i took one of those small cotton gloves and cut the palm out of it in a circle and put it between the antenna and the panel...but i don't think thats helping anything....and i know i can get reception through the glass, thats what my brother does in his dakota right now....theres just nothing to stick that magnet to inside...and i don't have a dash cover so therefore my dilemma...the quarter panel thing works good for reception and all but i don't want to damage my paint.

I'm certain they aren't talking about the outside of the quarter panel. they mean mount it near the spare on the interior inside the quarter panel, or the other side..

^ could be but then i doubt you'd get reception with the thing....

                    Re: sirius antenna

i have my xm antenna hidden inside the rear spoiler, works perfect. not sure if you can do that with the sirus antenna though. from what i understand sirus is more prone to drop outs if the antenna dosent have a clear line of sight.

I have Sirus on my 2000 and the antenna was easy and took about 15 minutes. You put the antenna disc on the right side of the car in the front on the black plastic piece in front of the windshild wiper then just thread the cable back into the car and attach to the sirius radio. Works fine and is not noticable at all. Putting in the back is nice but it takes a day and it looks funny.

Takes a day for what!?!? If it took me an entire day every time I needed to run a Sat antenna, I wouldn't have a job long.

I have found Sat antennas to be pretty damn forgiving. Usually only being covered by metal will affect signal reception. I recommend finding a spot on the interior of the car to prevent weather damage on the antenna. It may not happen in 6 months.... maybe not a year.... but it will happen. I probably replace at least one a week for such damage.

EDIT: anyone reading this.... also take note of this for GPS antennas. Them puppies are expensive replace!

solocamaro how did you get that antenna to stay there? on my firebird that piece is not metal (I don't think..well at least the magnetic antenna wouldn't grab it, because i tried that first...although i tried to hide it in the t-tops),.....and palmharbor how do you keep the antenna from moving around up there?..again...magnetic antenna...
