  • Headunit Question

OK, so I have a 2000 Firebird with the Monsoon System. I have my Subs hooked up, and we spliced the wires from the subs into the back right speaker. I know this is wrong but it works. So I was wondering what type of headunit I should buy so my controls on my steering wheel will still work, my subs will still work, and my antenna will still go up and down?

    Re: Headunit Question

There is no headunit you can purchase that will retain your steering wheel controls. However, PAC electronics makes adapter boxes that will solve your problem. Basically an extra piece of hardware, a small amount of extra wiring, and a few minutes of programming and you'll be back in business with any headunit you decide to purchase.

If the speaker you've tapped into for your subs still works, the subs themselves will work. However, now that you'll have real RCA outputs on your new headunit, I recommend running an RCA cable from the subwoofer output on the headunit directly to the amp.

Any headunit will keep your power antenna. In the headunit harness, solid blue will control the antenna. If the particular headunit you choose does not have solid blue, you can use blue/white.

If you want specific recommendations from me, we need a ballpark price. Keep in mind that you will be required to purchase a couple parts for installation. (Dash kit, antenna adapter and harness) ~$45-$50 Also, the PAC adapter is roughly $40-$50 off eBay. Gotta figure that in. Also, do you have an iPod you would be interested in connecting?

This is a crazy good deal:

Here's another decent unit for that price. iPod can connect via USB. Unsure what the difference is between using the USB and the dedicated iPod connection (KCE-422i cable)

For the Sony, you would use the PAC SWI-PS. For the Alpine, you would use the PAC SWI-JACK.
