  • Rear Seat Replacement Box

Well I did the rear seat delete and decided i needed something back there to make it look normal. I had my friend make me a custom box. Its almost done but I was just looking for comments/suggestions from you guys.

    Here are some pictures.

    Features:

Two lockable, lighted storage compartments: These are sweet. He went to radioshack and got push button switches for lights. It's just like a fridge. The lights are Amber Lazer LED's and they look amazing. And then we got some desk locks from Lowes so that I can safely transport premium beverages and other goods. We also incorporated a power inverter in one of the compartments so I can charge my mp3 player and Cell phone

We were able to hide the amplifier ontop of the driveshaft hump and under the bottom of the subbox. All of the wires will be totally hidden so its going to look real clean. Then we center mounted the 12" Subwoofer. I was thinking about having it point backwards into the hatch for acoustic purposes but I decided that would look weird...unless i mounted a Nitrous Bottle on the front side :P

    Tell me what ya think.

HOPEFULLY it should be done tomorrow. We'll see. I'm so excited to get it in. I will definitely post more pictures. I'm doing the carpeting in black and gray trim. It should look really clean.

This has been a great week for me. I'm getting my box installed, I have a new girlfriend, and best of all my little brother just bought a Z/28 WOOHOO! He's probably going to wrap it around a telephone pole though. That might be too much car for a 16 year old. :spank:

Looks good, only thing I notice is the gap on the front face of the box. Maybe it could be angled back slightly to close that off. No speakers in there so it isn't huge but just a minor thing. Looks good though.

Ya that gap is going to be covered up with a shim and some fabric. It'll come together nice and tight. I was worried about that too but he has a plan for it :)

                  Re: Rear Seat Replacement Box

My rear seat deletes are used for hiding my nitrous lines and my PPI 4200 amp. I like them because they are bolted in and don't move. They also have 2 holes in each of them for air. If needed someone could actually sit back there.

Looking good  Does your sub enclosure stick up higher than the rear hatch floor?

Post some pics when it's done!

Also, I hope you didnt do a rear seat delete for weight purposes, lol cause you probably added it all back + some.

Easily. The bottom two portions of the seats weigh nearly nothing, and the rear folding back part might weigh 15lbs. 20lbs absolute tops.

But hey. Who adds subwoofers when they're looking to drop weight?:naughty: The friggin 300lbs of audio equipment I used to roll with played hell on my factory springs. Think I was running 18.9's with all that crap in. lol

                          Re: Rear Seat Replacement Box

Okay he has everything screwed and caulked together.

Here is the picture he sent me. All that's left to do is carpet and hook up the wires. The box will be bolted in using the rear seat mounts so it will be a breeze to take out if i need to.

And i really dont care about weight...I drive a V6 camaro, and its a 3.4 to top it off. I'm not going to beat anything anyways. But i'm saving up for a Z/28 and plan on buying one next summer. So the box will transfer right over. And the LS1 wont mind chugging around a lil 50lb sub box. I originally deleted the rear seats so I could avoid driving people around...but it actually was more comfortable to sit back there without the seats. so i needed a final solution to my passenger problem. lol.

The sub box does sit a little higher than the rear hump, but its sloped down so it will blend just fine. You'll be able to see what im talking about when i post the final install pictures.
