  • Need some advice on a new HU

I want to replace my stock HU, but I really don't know what to get. I don't wanna spend more than $200.
I've already replaced the stock speakers with these Alpines
    http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...SPS17C2&tp=105
Not the best but better than what I had

    I'm looking at this HU
    http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...EHP4UB&tp=5684
    Anyone know anything about it?

And are there any better headunits in my price range?

    Thanks alot

Great choice. And usually people avoid buying from crutchfield. They are generally far over priced. However with headunits, crutchfield includes the dash kit, wiring harness, antenna adapter, and installation instructions with purchase. All with free shipping. Those parts alone would run you all of $40 shipped or $60 after tax from a retailer. Making that $165 price tag a very fair deal. Plus you'll get full manufacturer's warranty versus buying from eBay. I say go for it.

And there's really no reason to go with the Pioneer 5000 or 6000. Main upgrade would be the display. Looks a little better. Big deal. They extended the USB support clear down to the 4000 for the 2008 models. Kudos to them.:)

I install all of these models VERY often. I actually prefer the knob on the 4000 to the knobs on the 5 or 6000. lol

I've been a pioneer guy the entire time I've owned my car (including when I worked for best buy). I will be buying an alpine unit, for the only thing I use mine for is my ipod lol

I have an Alpine CDA 9884 in my Maro and it is powering 4 slightly more demanding speakers and my iPod is allways used with it, and I love it! The iPod integration is phenominal and the HU is very easy to use!

Didn't even know they were releasing another one..... already.

I've got no reason to get rid of my video. Still going strong and is always connected in the car, so no worries about battery life.

Re: Need some advice on a new HU

Unless you have an external amp, that HU is a bit weak i think. The older pioneer's were 22 RMS compared to the 14 from that one.

One more thing about that unit: I'm not sure if they changed it, but the ipod control on my older pioneer unit (deh-p490ib) sucks. You have to go through all the artists one by one, theres no alphabetical feature or a quick scroll. When you have 10k songs, that becomes a problem. I normally select the song i want on the ipod, then connect it to the unit.

I believe the large majority of headunits sold today all have the exact same rated power out. 22WRMS.

new HUs (including pioneers) you can scroll through the playlists. Just create a bunch of playlists. That's what I did lol

With Pioneer, you can search by Artist, Album, Playlist, etc... it uses the folder level scheme that is oh-so-popular. With any single-din headunit (be it Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, other), I suggest creating playlists.
