  • security?

I've just installed my sub (10" ported tube, very pleased with the sound) and it seems to be working great except, every once in a while I try to start the car and it won't start. hmmm. The security light comes on (it never had in the past). Unplugging the amp resolves the problem. Why does my car think I'm trying to steal it?

Odd. I think most people have this issue when their VATS chip is dirty or damaged.

Power ran directly from the battery? Where is the remote turn on lead tapped? And I assume just grounded to the chassis somewhere in the back... no?

ran the power to the cig lighter. remote turn on on power antenna in the back, and grounded to the rear fender. It hasn't done it since the other day, so maybe my key was just dirty. hm

You're running your main power wire for this sub from that skinny 18awg cig lighter wire? Let's slow down and think about this. Did you notice how the power/ground wires coming from the sub were much thicker than the cig lighter wires? This is because the bass tube pulls much more current than the cig lighter. It is designed to be run directly off the battery. A cheap 8awg amp kit is very cheap online. Here ya go.

the cig fuse was 25 amps, the amp was 15, i figured it'd be fine. You're right its not a good idea. But I can't decide how not a good idea it isn't and what to do instead. its working pretty well, since thats the only real electrical device I have in my car (100% manual everything ftw) and its only 300 watts. I can see the voltage drop a bit when its on but it remains still well above 13, so...I don't know
