Problems with my monsoon system and I dont understand why

I have a 2001 camaro with the Monsoon system. I replaced my headunit with a Pioneer DEH-6600. This was a long while back.. and my problem is starting to piss me off.

first of all... I used to get good bass from all my speakers, mainly my rear ones. it seems like my amp is blown, but I had bought a 2nd oem amp and interchanged them, neither of them make any difference. also... my middle speakers, the ones on either side of my back seat don't even work. no sound from them whatsoever. so I only get sound from the from 2 and the far rear 2

is this a problem with anyone else?? do you think I may have wired something wrong?

I was thinking about trying to put the regular headunit back in to see if the middle speakers work again.

does anyone have the wiring diagram for a aftermarket headunit to the camaro?

does anyone have any idea what I should do or try?

The factory headunit can be switched out for aftermarket with zero ill affects. Yes. Even with Monsoon.

The sail panel speakers (rear seat area) are well known to be the first to go. They're just poor quality. They can be switched for certain aftermarket midbass speakers. Let me know if you're interested and I'll go into further detail.

The sail panel speakers (rear seat area) are well known to be the first to go. They're just poor quality. They can be switched for certain aftermarket midbass speakers. Let me know if you're interested and I'll go into further detail.

Ive replaced them before. but, even if they did go, I would expect at least some noise from them. but theres nothing from either of them.

Im very interested in anything that will fix my problem.

It would be super-rediculous amazing if you could help me. Ill accept any and all help. I live in 32712. My dads a Snap-on Tools Dealer so we'd have more than enough tools for whatever needs fixing.



also... if this helps anything.. I took this head unit and wiring harness from my old 94 firebird with the stock regular old stereo system from which I installed it in.

Well Apopka is a little trek from me. About 2 hours.... so looks like I'll be helping via internet. LOL

The Camaro w/Monsoon has 2 ohm single voice coil woofers in the sail panel locations. So you will want to match this. Very few manufacturers sell 2 ohm SVC 6.5" speakers or 4 ohm DVC 6.5" speakers. Let's be blunt....your options are very limited. I recommend the offering from Bazooka.

Cheap. Effective. Wire the voice coils in parallel (+'s together and -'s together) and then wire to the factory wiring in each sail panel. This will present the Monsoon amp with the 2 ohm load the stock speakers presented. Users have reported an increase in bass output and longevity.

The front speakers are a little different. Each door has separate wiring for the tweeter and woofer. The tweeter is high-passed and powered directly off the headunit. The woofer is band-passed and powered from the Monsoon amp. If you just want a quality cheap replacement, I'd go with the Polk dB651's. On the install, you will need to "modify" the speakers slightly. The Polks are very easy to do this mod on and are a quality sounding speaker for the money. Basically, you snip the wires on the Polks that are running the the actual tweeter of the coaxil. Connect these wires to the factory tweeter wires in your door. The factory woofer wires (blue and light blue I believe) would connect to the regular Polk speaker connections. So ultimately, you are powering the tweeter and woofer separately on the same "speaker"..... just like the stock Monsoon setup.

If you have more money, you could do an actual component set. But you will have to custom mount the tweeter somewhere and will also have to house a crossover somewhere. Not worth the trouble unless you're using an aftermarket amp IMO.

Since your dad is a Snap-On dealer, I'm sure you're well versed in DIY manual labor. Surely you can do this yourself. But if you actually need a hand, you're welcome to drive my way.:)

so in other words your saying both of those speakers are blown? Ill test them and see if thats the case..

so I ended up getting my middle speakers to work!
first off I switched out my headunit with the OEM one, the middle speakers still didn’t work so I came to the conclusion that it wasn’t my head unit so I put the Pioneer back in.

Making the middle speakers work was simpler than I could have even imagined. You know those 2 little + and - wires from the terminals to the back of the speaker cone? So what I did was wiggled them around a bit, and I also clamped down the terminal on the wire to make sure everything is contacting 100%. I also figured out most of the bass on the monsoon system comes from those speakers and it ended up not being the rear speakers making all the bass (as far as my car goes). Though, I have 2 10's in my car I don’t necessarily need the bass from middle speakers but it makes a difference.

I should have taken pictures. but its pretty straightforward.

My procedure probably wont work for everyone, but it sure did work for me! both speakers! FINALLY! :banana:

And yes, the sail panel speaker are the "subwoofers" in the monsoon system. It's that way with every camaro and firebird with the monsoon option.

Yeah. I’m good with electronics and it didn’t make sense to me either, but it worked!:tup:

Unfortunately, I’m not too educated in the monsoon option setup or wiring, hence this topic.

If this odd technique works for anyone else, let me know via this topic! I’d be glad/surprised to know my technique worked for someone else.
