  • How would this sound/work?

i have a 96 camaro with the bose cd player

    http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Car-M...ewidesearch.do

or the make it a package here:
    http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-...oductDetail.do

on the package deal with the Sony Dual 12" Enclosed Ported Subwoofers & Sony ZR Series 2/1-Channel Amplifier....

would this be able to wire right up to my stock headunit?
where would the best place to place it be? its kind of big...
where would be the easiest/most stealthy way to run the wires to?
Is this a good deal for the equipment? I need something for christmas...:naughty:

    thanks :)

Im not sure about how to wire it into a factory system, but i have a single 10" sub in my car with a stealth box the fits into the drivers side quarter panel and it thumps really hard.
the box on your link doesnt look like it would fit very good IMHO.
If you want to run 2 subs i would recomend a box like this one

this is the style i have in my car, but i only have the drivers side one.

best thing you could do is ditch the bose cd player, it will save you a lot of money and trouble in the long run

        Re: How would this sound/work?

get a Line output converter and you'll be able to hook it up to your stock system; it lets you tap into your current speaker wiring and then give you a set of LCAs. Will it sound OK? No telling really; it's Sony which isn't a great brand when it comes to car audio. I think that box will fit, but I may be wrong.

EDIT: after looking at the amp, it has speaker level inputs, so a LOC isn't needed. They should give you a wiring adapter that will plug into the amp, and you wire the other end into your current speaker wiring. But, the amp isn't pushing a lot of power; 125W @ 4Ohm x2. It is bridgeable, but it's only rated 340 @ 4Ohms; more than likely you could run the 2 woofers in parallel for a 2Ohm load and run that bridged for roughly 600W (~300 each speaker), but I'm not too sure how long that amp could handle it.

yea, but i need my t-top space, and all the stealth enclosures like yours are too expensive right now... so,

this can hook up to my stock headunit (i don't want to upgrade it just yet)... and until i upgraded my amp i could only run 150-300 watts per amp...
any other suggestions, or i might just ask for this...my alternative would be a smaller 10 inch sub,(1) in between my rear seats, with a little amp too... so... im thinking this will be better

            Re: How would this sound/work?

The Sony subwoofer box is a 4 ohm final load box. You bridge the two-channel amp and let er' eat. There is no options to rewire the subs for a 2ohm load. (Let alone the amp being stable to 2 ohms when bridged)

The box IS huge. I have no clue where the hell you'd put it in an f-body. I don't think it would even fit on that rear shelf over the gas tank. Think it would be too tall to allow the hatch to close. Not to mention it would completely block your rear view and look downright hideous.

I recommend the stealth box. You can usually find them on eBay for a little cheaper than subthump. Unsure of the quality though. Don't allow yourself to settle for some fugly setup not designed for your vehicle.

PS. Saw one of these in person today. Powering two 15" L7's

thats the problem im having now... even finding a spot for it. I don't really want to put it somewhere where I would need to buy a fairly expensive enclosure... is there anyway to put it under the back seats or something? I'll have to re-measure that area above the gas tank behind the seats again...

                ?!?!?!:eek::eek:

Even if it does fit behind the seats, it would completely block your rearview and look god awful ugly. Not a little tacky, but downright trashy. I'd fold the rear seats down and stick them on top of the rear seats before I'd go behind them. But I digress there, because that to would not be your best option.

I realize you're on a budget, but sometimes you have to spend a little more. If you don't have the money, then wait. Save another hundred or two and then do it properly. You'll be happy you did. The stealth box(es) look wonderful and sound just as good. You tell me what your friends would be most impressed by..... The Sony box wedged under the hatch somehow, or a custom box that was designed for a camaro? Not sure why there are none on eBay now, there usually is several, but keep your eyes peeled. I'm quite confident you can get a quality box, sub, and amp for under $300.

                  Re: How would this sound/work?

I have $500 into my system, but it's a custom ported box with 2 12's and a RF amp. If you went with just a stealth enclosure with 1 10 and an amp, you could probably set it up for $300 or less like 96firebird311 said. And, I'd almost be willing to bet that your 10" stealth set-up would sound better then those POS 12's.

Obviously nobody has said this to you before..... but especially when it comes to mobile audio.... you get what you pay for. Headunits. Subs. And especially amps.

That headunit is #1) a double-din size and will not fit into your camaro. #2) Complete garbage. I hate to be so ruthless, but it's the truth. If you honestly want a video display in your car, this is the best you'll get for the least amount of money. If you must have a larger screen, your best bet is something like this or this. You'll thank me next Christmas when you're not shopping for a headunit again.

If you can get past the video display, Pioneers are always a quality buy for the money. The Pioneer 3000 comes with a free iPod cable and the 4000,5000, and 6000 all come with USB support.

nah man, its cool, its why i ask things here, to see if it will fit, be compatible of whether its just garbage...I don't wanna blow my money on junk. But yes, this is my first time actually trying to upgrade my sound system...ill look into some pioneer head units then. Although i gotta say it sucks when you want to upgrade it because theres no room for anything it seems, no trunk, and i have t-tops

I only paid 120 bucks for my stealth box new. i cant think of the brand name right now so ill have to get back to you on that.
Why do you want to have a video deck in your car? do you spend that much time in your car that you want to watch movies in it?

i have a Clarion pro audio that i bought in a pawn shop for 80.00 in my car. i couldn't imagine needing more than that

If you need to maintain t-top storage area, your choices are dual 12"s with this box from subthump. (Here is their direct page).... or dual 10"s with matching driver and passenger side stealth boxes. Again, watch eBay. They're always on there... can't find any now though.

Also, believe it or not, Crutchfield is often times a good place to look for HEADUNITS ONLY. They give you free installation equipment with purchase. That generally always offsets their higher prices. Here is the Pioneer 3000. $130 shipped with the iPod cable and all three required installation accessories you would need to install any aftermarket headunit into your camaro. (Dash kit, wiring harness, antenna adapter) Throw in the fact that Crutchfield is an actual authorized retailer and you'll receive full manufacturers warranty and free 24/7 phone support, and it's a no brainer. Step up to the Pioneer 4000 and get a nicer display, USB support, 6-channel 4 volt versus 4-channel 2 volt RCA connections. The Pioneer 5000 is basically a clone of the 4000 but with a flip down face and nicer display. Or save up the money and buy that JVC video display unit I linked you to earlier. I've installed several of them. Seems like a quality product.
