  • Need good solution to hookin up my itouch

Ok well got an itouch for christmas so now want to hook it up to my 99' Firebird, so am looking for a good solution since I dont know much of anything about ipods and very little about the intergration into the Firebirds.

But right now I have the stock head unit with Monsoon package. I've heard that some head units do have an auxilary port on the back??? I dunno how to determine whether mine would or not besides pulling it out. I know that they have head units out there that have aux or ipod ports on the front of them, if thats the easiest way to go then give me some good head unit ideas and follow up hardware that i would need. Which that way might be th easy way cuz my stock head unit is to the point now where when its really cold out it doesnt even want to read CD's anymore so im guessing its about to go. But what I do want to know is if aftermarket head units work with the stock monsoon amp or not? Because years ago i had a sony head unit from my previous firebird that i put into my 99 and the bass was better with the stock unit so i left the stock one in.

But anyways if you guys can throw me some ideas with setups or links to the products i would need. Plz dont send me links to previous threads since I dont have time to research a million threads and try to piece together everyone else's setup and compare it to mine.

If you don't mind spending the money, absolutely switch to an aftermarket headunit. I'm not sure if the auxiliary port adapter for the stock headunit would work with the iPod TOUCH anyway.

How much you looking to spend? I recommend buying from crutchfield.com. But ONLY for headunits. They give you all your installation parts for free with purchase. On the firebirds, that's about $50-$60 in parts. It's super easy to do the swap yourself too. Pull the trim that surrounds the radio and A/C controls straight off. Unscrew the 9/32 bolts on each side of the radio and slide it out.

Do you still actually use CDs?! If you have the iPod, why not just rip all your CDs on to that? Then gets a headunit that caters to the advantages of an iPod. Like this one:

Oh and yes. Any aftermarket headunit will work with the Monsoon amp without any special mods.

That headunit might be a lil bit too much $$. Is there anything a lil cheaper?

I went with a Alpine IDA-X200,, uses usb stores up to 10,000 songs on its hard drive, no cd player but has a out for a cd changer, I got tired of CDS, so I got a 8 Gig USB and put all my songs on it , then transfered them into the IDA-X200. But the IDA-X200 is perfect though for the price.

one of my friends got a pioneer HU that looks pretty and works decently, you can connect ipod, aux and/or usb storage. I know how most people feel about pioneer though- sucks, but it was pretty reasonably priced. look around

There's nothing wrong at all with Pioneer. They've always made solid headunits. Also note it's the only one out of the three with a CD player. If you're still into that archaic storage media.

All three are 100% compatible with the Touch.

That Alpine IDA-X200 is a great deal at 149.99, I paid $45.00 more for mine on ebay.

On top of that, it comes with free shipping and $50 worth of installation parts. (Dash kit, harness, antenna adapter)

I missed out on the dash kit , that was about it, but didn't need it any way. Mine was free shipping too, but I tried to cancel the ebay one and they wouldn't let me B@stards(lost some money, but on the other hand Best buy had it listed for 299.00, so I don't feel too bad). I just plan on running the USB cord on the drivers side , so I can just plug in my USB's. I hope to get it in after my car comes back from paint, this week I hope.

Run it to the glove box. Plug in your iPod/flash drive/hard drive then close the glove box. Forget about it. All controls are from the Alpine face. Out of sight out of mind.... to criminals.

Yea well im sure that one has better sound quality than the one i had a few years ago, the one i had was so bad, thats why i ended up giving my nano to my bro lol, but now i got the itouch. So I can hook it up and put it in glove box and control it from the Headunit your saying? Dunno be wierd not having a cd player tho.

Then buy the Pioneer 6000. Or if that's too much, the Pioneer 5000. Differences being full OEL motion display, 7-band EQ, and motorized faceplate on the 6000 versus 2 line display, 3-band EQ, and non motorized flip down face on the 5000. The display being the biggest thing IMO. The more info you can stick on the screen at once, the better.
