  • Stereo died.....

OK, I own a '98 Camaro with the Monsoon system, and I was driving from Texas to South Carolina... well in Mississippi My stereo started cutting in and out and finally just died, When I pulled over I found out that my battery was loose and had moved around, but when I set it back in place my stereo didn't come back on.

Does anybody know if it's just the stereo that died or if my wiring is just messed up, Forgot to mention when I push the hr and min buttons the clock comes on for a little bit....

The fact the clock comes on at all kinda rules a blown fuse out. You can always double check though. Maybe the clock power is run separate for all I know. LOL Best way to check would be to remove the radio and, using a multimeter and key in the ACC position, test for voltage on the yellow and orange wires. If you have +12V on both those wires and the radio still does not turn on, it's shot.

If all else fails, any aftermarket stereo will work fine with the Monsoon system. Can be had for $100 including all the installation equipment.

If you don't like that player, anything over $129 will qualify for free installation equipment and free shipping too. This Kenwood is awfully feature packed for the money:

Those two units are obviously for the budget minded consumer. If you're willing to spend more ($200+), just say the word and I'll kick out a few more recommendations.

another possibility is that the BCM is going bad if it's cutting in and out.

My radio stopped working completely for quite awhile, but since I had manual crank windows I didnt notice any other affects.

well i never hooked up the multimeter, but last night my radio turned back on... I wonder what the problem was? It would flash on and off then all of the sudden it just stayed on, but I then realized that my radio sounds horrible...

its the devil... you playing country music? I mean after all it was mississippi..

            lol
I dont know what it could be, maybe the radio is going out, loose joint on the board or something. best bet would be to find someone with a stock camaro radio and hook it up to see if it does the same.. if it does, its a bigger problem. if not, monsoon radios are damn near a dime a dozen. it could be anything, but I would try the obvious.. My Sony CDX, is on its way out , the motorized flaceplate is starting not to want to go up and is making noises. So I got a Alpine ADA-200 for X-MAS, will be putting that in sometime. It doesn't play CD's but uses USB plug in and has it's own memory storage for 10,000 songs built in. Since I don't listen to the radio this is perfect for me , plus I have a 8 GB usb storage plug in for it. Crutchfield had it listed for 149.99 with free shipping, and install kit. Also can hook up a cd changer etc. Might look at that one too.

CDs are so passé. I can't remember the last time I've used one.

                  Re: Stereo died.....

I love CD's... They're so much easier, I don't have to make my eyes off the road, just pop it in and select a song....

It turned off for a whole day, but now it's back on...^_^

I'll prolly buy a new one in a month or two... does anyone have a suggestion for speaker replacements under $200 a pair... My speakers vibrate a crap ton
