Re: Asking for an update from 96firebird311 (plz)
Hey no problem. In my opinion, the Polk dB series sounds better than most in that price range. (Kicker included) I've also had plenty of time with the Alpine Type-S line and I wasn't impressed. If you're buying 2 pair, the Polks are $75/pair. Hard to beat for that price.
The entire audio system is stock in your firebird at this time? If so, and you plan on keeping it mostly stock, I wouldn't bother with a component set. In fact, it's actually against Illinois law to power a Polk component set off a factory headunit. Dead serious! Look it up!
If you plan on using an aftermarket amp in the future, go for the component set now.
Above all, see for yourself. Hop on by your local circuit citys and best buys and give a listen. Bring your own CD and try to use the same headunit for all your tests. Check the EQ settings as well, as this could EASILY sway your decisions.Last edited by 96firebird311; 01-06-2009, 06:56 PM.

thanks a lot, its because im on ebay right now and i found those speakers you mentioned before and found them for 50-80 a pair so ill be ordering them soon. You have any good head units that you would reccommend under $200? Why is it illegal? that is something i have to look into.

Just wait until a cop pulls you over and finds out you're powering a Polk component set off the headunit. Oh boy! You're gonna get it! (I kid. Just proving a point guys. LOL!)
6.5" and 6.75" will both fit without any modifications. Most manufacturers don't even make a 6.75" speaker. In this biz, they're considered interchangeable sizes.
And those are obviously the same speakers, just in the 6.75" size. Go for it.
Boston makes decent stuff, but I don't have much experience with their car audio equipment. Just home audio.
As for your headunit:

6-channel 4V RCAs, 2-line display, and USB. Awesome headunit for the price.
And if you still have the stock headunit, that's the best deal on the Pioneer too. You can find it on eBay for $145, but crutchfield includes all the installation equipment for free. They're also an authorized Pioneer dealer, so you'll get full warranty if needed. If you already have an aftermarket headunit, then you have all the parts already. Just buy it off eBay.

I don't recall if you had the monsoon system or not. Nor do I really recall what the speaker connections looked like. Regardless, I wouldn't waste your money on those. Just splice the wire's insulation back a little bit and connect your own wire. No need to cut off the plug.
I do it all day, every day.
If you're really super lazy and want to waste the money, buy them from a local store. If they're the wrong ones, return them.
