  • need some help here radio guys.

the car I bought had a system in it at one time. they cut some wires to get the monsoon amp to work. well I I spliced some wires back together and now my battery drains and dies. also the factory speakers that I installed arnt sounding all that great...

there were a couple wires that I cut out that belonged so some sub box.. also some of the amp wires that were cut were the same color, so I might of wired it back wrong. I took everything back to the stock radio, because lets face it, camaro systems arnt that bad.

anyone have an idea on why my battery is dieing? it did not do this till I hooked everything back up

    Let me know
    Thanks

Wow. Could be many different things with that wiring disaster you're describing. lol

Ensure that the main power wire for the amplifier is disconnected from the battery. (Pop the hood. Ensure anything not stock is disconnected)

Ensure the thin, usually blue, remote turn on lead for the amplifier is disconnected from its source. (You may have to follow it back to where ever they tapped it in. Often times behind the radio)

Ensure your radio is connected to power properly. Specifically the ignition wire. Ensure that the radio is turning on and off with the car. Obviously if you connect ignition and constant together just to get it to work.... you will have to manually turn the radio on/off. If you forget, bye bye battery.

As for back at the monsoon amp.... jeez.... who knows what's going on back there from what you have described. I have no idea what wires they cut/wired and what you spliced to put it back together. I'd really have to look at it in person.

If worse comes to worse and you can't find the source, you need to measure parasitic draw at the battery with the car off. Get a steady reading, then disconnect something from the car. See if the reading drops. Example: disconnect the radio. If reading stays the same, disconnect monsoon amp. If reading stays the same, try disconnecting BCM. Etc etc.

yeah there is a light blue wire that is not connected. I figured it went along with the aftermarket system. so it however is not hooked up. the radio does turn on when the car is turned on. turns off when door is opened with the ignition is turned off.... I'll have to disco everything and figure it out... thanks, I'll check the voltage and see what happens.

I would also check to make sure the Monsoon amp isn't on all the time, if you already checked the stereo. On my last Alpine install I had 2 blue wires , 1 for turn on and 1 for allumination where if you turn your inside lights down the stereo lights dim also. Good luck, wiring stuff is usually simple if you have a mutimeter to check wires.
