  • Installed Elemental Designs sail subs

Thanks to the forum and all the info here, I wisely chose to replace my sail subs with Elemental Designs e3.6 d4 subs.

I got them installed today in my otherwise stock system. I'd say that with the same EQ, Fade, Bal, and Volume settings, these subs output a similar amount of bass compared to the OEM Delco subs. Personally, I like this because the sound still balances nicely between subs, fronts, and rear fills in my 1999 V6 Camaro with Monsoon.

I purchased mine at $85 per speaker, it was poor timing because now Elemental Designs has put them on sale for $39.99 each. http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...products_id=33
If you're still running stock sail subs, get yourself a pair of these while they're on sale, even if you just put them on a shelf until the OEM Delcos blow.

These are just a straight swap out? I'm sure this is a silly question, but audio has never been my forte.

That is what I have. Just curious as I am replacing all the speakers inside. Only ones I have swapped out so far are the 4" ones in the back.

Yes, this is a straight swap out for the 2 back seat "sail panel" subs. Because they are dual voice coil (dvc), they work equally well for monsoon Camaros and monsoon Firebirds.

              You will need to:
1 buy or build a spacer ring for each speaker. I got a sheet of 1/4" MDF from HDepot and made my own. If this bothers you, look into Bazooka or other brands that have less depth

2 splice a short piece of speaker wire into your existing wires

I didn't photograph mine, but if you search, you'll find a couple of illustrated writeups on this.

lol You can rest assured I have read every single post as they happen. With one new topic a week.... it's not that hard.:(

The ED subs are, for the most part, a direct swap out for the factory monsoon sail panel subs. The difference between Camaros and Firebirds is that Camaros have 2 ohm SVC subs and Firebirds have 4 ohm DVC subs. Being that the e3.6 is 4 ohm DVC, it will work with either f-body application. (Wired in parallel for the camaro, or wired to each respective voice coil for the Firebird)

The other small hurdle to overcome is depth. As drawpast stated, spacer rings need to be used. You can either build them yourself, or buy them from any local car audio parts supplier.
