  • Questions about my new headunit

Ok I have the monsoon system in my firebird.

And I just got the Pioneer DEH-P5000UB head unit.

    http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130DEHP...B.html?tp=5684

And I was planning on doing the install myself since I know how to crimp and I know how to solder. But was looking at the directions and not really sure what to splice together lol. So I'm wondering if its worth it to say screw it and have like Best buy or somewhere install it.

And also what will happen to my stock monsoon amp with this headunit, will it work with it at all or no?

Re: Questions about my new headunit

The stock Monsoon system will all still work as it did before. Possibly better.

You should easily be able to do this. But you will need some parts. If you did in fact buy the Pioneer from Crutchfield, they should have supplied all the parts for you. If you bought it elsewhere, you'll have to hop on over to Wally World and pick up a dash kit, wiring harness, and an antenna adapter. All of which fit your 99 Bird. If you happen to go to best buy instead, they will be a little more money, but they'll have everything for sure. If it's Metra products, the dash kit is 993320, the harness is 701858, and the antenna adapter is 40GM10..... if memory serves me correctly on all of that.

Other than that.... it's pretty straight forward. Follow the directions in the dash kit. The wiring harness you will purchase will plug right into the Firebird harness. Then you just match up color to color with the Pioneer harness. You can do all that prep work before even looking at the car. Much easier to solder on your workbench versus sitting in the car. lol

Yes sry forgot to add that I did get this other parts from crutchfield and yea that's what I jus relized that I can do the connections outside the car that makes it so much easier to work with so I will prolly solder it myself. Would you kno offhand what connections connect to each other offhand jus to douleheck my work or no?

It's color to color with the Pioneer harness. White to White. White/Black to White/Black. etc etc

If the Pioneer harness does not have a solid blue wire in it, you can connect the blue/white to the solid blue on the vehicle harness. Even if the vehicle harness has a blue/white wire already. This is what will trigger your power antenna. So yes. To recap: connect the blue/white from the Pioneer to BOTH the blue/white and the blue wire in the vehicle harness.

I do. But I'm never online. Certain people want to message me the second they see me online. I don't respond because I don't want to talk to them. Then the next time we run into each other, I get the 'WTF. I messaged you on AIM. How come you didn't respond?' And trust me, they don't want to hear my response. lol

Name a day and time (Eastern time) that you want to meet online and I'll log into AIM. I'm online often enough anyway.
